Conserving the Texas heritage of agricultural lands, wildlife habitats, and natural resources.
About us
Concerned that Texas is losing its rural lands faster than any other state in the country, leaders of Texas’ statewide agricultural, wildlife and landowner organizations came together in 2006 to create the Texas Agricultural Land Trust. With a Board of Directors who, as landowners themselves, understand the day-to-day challenges of farming and ranching, TALT promotes the conservation of open space, native wildlife habitats, and natural resources of Texas’ private working lands. TALT, a non-profit organization, today has partnered with landowners to conserve 98,600 acres. Created by farmers and ranchers for farmers and ranchers, TALT is proud to play a role in conserving Texas’ legacy of wide open spaces.

One week since the Working Lands Innovation Summit - The event sparked engaging discussions on the rapidly evolving carbon, biodiversity, and water credit markets, highlighting both the urgency and potential within these emerging areas. The summit showcased the growing collaboration between corporations and ranchers in conservation, as businesses partner to advance sustainability goals. This alignment is opening doors for preserving working lands while tapping into ecosystem service markets. Ultimately, the summit emphasized the critical role ranchers hold in land stewardship and the innovative opportunities available in emerging conservation markets. It served as a strong reminder of the shared duty to protect working lands through cooperative efforts that safeguard their future.

Introducing Mary Frances Moquin, TALT's Policy and Administrative Coordinator! Her passion for conservation was sparked at a young age, as she watched open land transform into strip malls while growing up as the youngest of four in a military family. This early experience fueled her lifelong commitment to protecting natural spaces. Armed with a degree in Environment and Sustainability, along with a Master’s in Environmental Policy, Mary Frances gained valuable experience working with The Land Trust for Tennessee and The Nature Conservancy. Now, she's excited to bring her expertise to TALT!

TALT is a proud member of the Partnership of Rangeland Trusts (PORT), a group of agricultural-focused state conservation associations. Together, PORT members across 12 states have partnered with over 2,000 farm and ranch families to conserve more than 3.1 million acres. One family’s decision to conserve their land contributes to a much larger mission that keeps the agricultural foundation of the West and Midwest prosperous and productive.
