  • Please join DPS as we recognize and thank Public Safety Commission (PSC) Commissioner Steve Stodghill for his service on the PSC. Commissioner Stodghill was appointed in September 2019, and for the last five years, he’s provided vital guidance and steadfast support as he’s served both the Commission and the department.   As a member of the PSC, Commissioner Stodghill has shown an unwavering commitment to the state of Texas. We are thankful for his dedication to bettering the department and our people as DPS works to fulfill our mission to protect and serve Texas. On behalf of DPS, Chairman Steven P. Mach, Nelda Luce Blair, Dan Hord III and Larry Long, we thank you, Commissioner Stodghill, for all that you do!

  • Our highways are busier than ever, and DPS’ Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) team works hard to help ensure the safety of commercial vehicles traveling our roads. Earlier this week, CVE Troopers in DPS’ Northwest Texas Region participated in Operation Compliance along I-40 near Amarillo and Shamrock. Operations like this are all about reducing commercial motor vehicle crashes through the enforcement of the Motor Carrier Safety Act and other laws and regulations. Additionally, our CVE Troopers in DPS’ Southeast Texas Region worked alongside partners from League City and Friendswood Police Departments for this week’s Brake Safety Check Task Force in Brazoria County ― a collective enforcement effort that resulted in 125 inspections completed. 📸 Courtesy of DPS' Northwest Texas & Southeast Texas Regions

  • Whether it’s our Troopers patrolling the roadways or our Radiation/Nuclear Detection Unit helping ensure public safety at a college football team, DPS is dedicated to fulfilling our mission to protect and serve Texas in every way possible. Check out our Radiation/Nuclear Detection unit at last week’s Texas A&M football game. Our team served as the specialized law enforcement component of an interagency JHAT (Joint Hazard Assessment Team) during the game. The JHAT conducted sweeps of Kyle Field, Aggie Park and surrounding locations, as well as screening of fans entering the stadium. #ProtectAndServe

  • Mark your calendar for January 1, 2025: That’s when changes will take effect and Texas’ Vehicle Safety Program will eliminate most vehicle safety inspections. Drivers in emissions counties will still need emissions tests to register their vehicles. Non-commercial vehicles will be subject to a $7.50 inspection program replacement fee, which you’ll pay when you register your vehicle with the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles. New vehicles that haven’t previously been registered will be required to pay an initial inspection program replacement fee of $16.75 to cover two years. The best way to prepare is to know when your vehicle is up for registration. If it falls before January 1, 2025, the current rules still apply; if it falls after, you will be subject to the changes. • ICYMI: Our Amarillo District K9 handlers, along with their K9 partners, recently participated in the 5th Annual Fallen K9 Memorial Run to honor fallen K9 heroes from across the nation. Together, the canine partners ran an impressive 5.6 miles, dressed in full gear, to demonstrate their dedication and respect for their fallen comrades. It was truly a special event, and our team was proud to participate and honor these fallen officers. 📸 Courtesy of DPS’ Northwest Texas Region
