2024 Texas Golf Hall of Fame Induction Highlights The Texas Golf Hall of Fame proudly welcomed the Class of 2024 with the annual Gathering of Eagles Celebration last Monday. This year’s honorees have left indelible marks on Texas golf. The Inductees: Amateur - Randy Sonnier Lifetime Achievement - C. Malcolm Holland III Playing Professional - D.A. Weibring Historic Course - Royal Oaks Country Club, Dallas (Todd Harbor and David Cheetham) Professional Service - Mike Ray Golf Professional/Teacher - Brent Buckman Professional Service - Dr. Marvin H. Ferguson (posthumously - Grandson, Ed Hodnett) The 2024 inductees have earned their places on the Texas Golf Walk of Fame. Their granite markers will stand as tributes at both Brackenridge Park and The Ronny Golf Park, commemorating their contributions to the game for future generations to admire. Texas Golf Hall of Fame 2024 was a special event! So excited to see Brent Buckman and former Southern Texas PGA Section Executive Director Mike Ray inducted. Mike was on the hiring committee that brought me to Austin and was so instrumental in helping First Tee - Greater Austin get off the ground. The FTGA Founders had yet to set up their 501(c)(3) status when I was initially hired and Mike added me to the staff, handed me a laptop for the STPGA Junior Tour in Austin and we were off and running. Brent Buckman just as instrumental, when I moved to Austin, I did not know anyone in the golf industry Duke Butler III a mentor from the North Florida PGA Section and former Texan recommended that I reach out to Brent. Best move I ever made, not only did Brent take my meeting, as we were sitting there he hopped on the phone and started calling local golf professionals and asked that they too give me a meeting. Fast forward, First Tee - Greater Austin success is still built off the efforts of our PGA members, Jim Nittoli (and wife Kelley pictured) Director of Golf at San Antonio C.C. and my counterpart in San Antonio Carrie Kimbell were their guests at the event. San Antonio C.C. is this years host of our annual "Game Changers Event" (FT-GA Youth vs. FT-GSA Youth).
