Working to ensure all students across North Carolina receive an excellent education.
About us
We are working across Eastern North Carolina, Charlotte, the Piedmont Triad, and other communities in North Carolina to expand educational opportunities for children. We begin by recruiting dynamic, outcomes-driven, equity-centric educators to join the movement to end educational inequity. Our network of 2,200+ leaders across the state are advocating for children from classrooms, schools and every field that shapes the broader systems in which schools operate. TFA launched in the Eastern North Carolina region in 1990, in Charlotte in 2004, and the Piedmont-Triad in 2014. Through the years, we have collectively trained nearly 4000 teacher leaders in our state, impacting more than 250,000 students.

On this #IndigenousPeoplesDay, we celebrate the strength, creativity, and resilience of Indigenous peoples across the country, while highlighting the youth of the Oglala Lakota Nation in Pine Ridge, South Dakota. Through Outlast, a project founded by LT (South Dakota '21), local students are learning to tell their stories through film and media. This film camp provides the next generation with the tools to reclaim their narratives and inspire change in their communities. At Teach For America, we stand with Indigenous peoples’ self-determination, advocating for education and student empowerment as essential pathways to a renewed community and culture. #IndigenousPeoplesDay #LakotaYouth #OutlastFilmCamp #TeachForAmerica Photo credit: Outlast Arts and Education

We're Hiring: Know a great senior/lead fundraiser? Teach For America North Carolina has launched a search for our lead/senior fundraiser (Managing Director, Triad and Triangle Fundraising) for our markets in the Piedmont Triad and Triangle. This role is the consolidation of positions to allow us to elevate the role to attract a senior level fundraising leader to help us with ambitious goals to grow our private fundraising base exponetially in these areas. This role works closely with me on the ground throughout the state, our central fundraising team at TFA, and reports to Allie Hanson on the NC team - who is the hiring manager. The candidate must live and work in the Triangle or Triad area although we are a primarily remote team and requires travel within those markets and statewide at times. Role profile, salary range (starts at $99K) and other details are listed in the posting that I will include in the comments. We do have a priority deadline and will be evaluating applicants on a rolling basis. Please refer all great candidates who are ready to lead and impact to apply. Teach For America North Carolina is proud to serve as a placement region for Teach For America's high-impact tutoring program known as the Ignite Fellowship. Eastern North Carolina was the first TFA region in the Southeastern United States to offer the Fellowship. As we celebrate National Tutoring Appreciation week, Teach For America North Carolina would like to send a huge thank you our Ignite tutors who are helping us achieve our vision of "One Day".
🚨 This National Tutoring Appreciation Week, let's celebrate the vital role tutoring plays in supporting the unique learning needs of all students! One impactful way to do this is by strengthening the tutor-to-teacher pipeline through programs like our Ignite Fellowship, Step Up Tutoring and Deans for Impact (DFI)’s Aspiring Teachers as Tutors Network. 📚✨ High-impact tutoring not only boosts student success but also provides aspiring educators with invaluable real-world experience. By investing in tutoring, we can create pathways to the profession while supporting veteran educators. Join us in building a brighter future for students and teachers alike! “RISE helped me grow as a leader not only in the classroom, but in the school and education community. - Shade White (CPT ‘21), 2023 RISE fellow In the 2023-2024 school year, Teach For America North Carolina had 22 RISE fellows in classrooms across the state. Our fellows received career development, one-on-one coaching centered around their personal and professional goals, and other professional incentives. We asked our RISE fellows why they wanted to continue their professional journey with TFA NC—check out what they had to say. #OneDayNC #TeachForAmerica #RISEFellowship #TeacherRetention

Teach For America North Carolina’s RISE Fellowship continues the legacy of support and development that begins with our corps members' first two years in the classroom in an effort to empower them to continue their growth and impact as educators. Says Karyn Pleasant, Head of Educational Impact, “With teacher attrition near an all-time high, our fellowship is designed to re-engage alumni educators in years 3-5 of teaching through coaching, professional development and career development pathways specifically focused on the education field. It is our belief that continued investment in our teachers and leaders in education will increase teacher retention and expand the number of educators contributing to our 2030 goal. Through our RISE Fellowship, we hope to strengthen the talent pipeline and retain exceptional educators in our classrooms to help us achieve our mission of "One Day’.” Throughout the week, we will share more about our premier program that continues to retain quality, empowered, equity-minded educators in classrooms across our state. #OneDayNC #TeachForAmerica #TeacherRetention #NCED
