Reflecting on Crown Day with Marsha Brown, Manager, Onboarding & Talent Acquisition Support 👑
As I reflect on Crown Day, commemorating the inaugural signing of the first CROWN Act in California on July 3, 2019, to “Create a Respectful and Open World for Natural Hair,” I can’t help but consider the often-unspoken expectations about professionalism and appearance common in the corporate world. Being a Black woman in a corporate role comes with unique challenges, and wearing my natural afro is a powerful statement of resilience amidst those challenges. My afro is more than just a hairstyle; it's a celebration of heritage, identity, and the beauty of Black culture. At Aaron’s, I feel like my authentic self and my natural hair are welcome – as identity and culture, and as a clear visual cue to the new team members I welcome to Aaron’s as the Manager of Onboarding and Talent Acquisition Support. By embracing my natural hair, I'm showing those around me that they can also be successful without sacrificing authenticity. I am enough, just as I am.
