A heartfelt thank to our visionary Founder, Dr. Sidonie N, PharmD, MBA, BCPS for establishing The African Think Tank, that’s now thriving across five U.S. regions. This influential organization serves as a transformative catalyst for the African diaspora and a trusted resource for public and private institutions, with a focus on strengthening community ecosystems. Through powerful programming initiatives, we are rewriting our story - one which fosters belonging, where entrepreneurs thrive, higher education exchanges are prioritized, and global, integrated commerce is promoted. In North Carolina, The African Think Tank is making monumental strides. We deeply appreciate and applaud Governor Roy Cooper for his commitment— despite ongoing Hurricane Helene recovery efforts that he is entrenched in, he visited Western North Carolina and made time for a historic meeting with us to honor the African Diaspora. His September 2024 signing of the African Diaspora Heritage Month Proclamation marked a historic first for the state of North Carolina. Our gratitude goes to the following attendees of this closed-session meeting: - Johnson C. Smith University under President Valerie K. and Provost Dr. Thierno Thiam for their global vision and partnership. - Paul Nelson, MBA, Regional Director of The African Think Tank Charlotte, Kimberly Nelson Steering Committee Member, Cristina España and Saira Estrada from the Governor’s office, Tracy Lovett (although absent) for advancing this vision alongside Governor Cooper; we thank you for championing global inclusivity in Charlotte. We also recognize Dina Lemba Nshisso, MPH, board member of the Charlotte International Cabinet with global health expertise, Saya Sio, founder of the Annie T. Doe Foundation, working to create pathways to guide high school students toward higher education opportunities at HBCUs, and all our members of The African Think Tank in Charlotte and across the other regions. Finally, congratulations to all African Diaspora organizations for their invaluable contributions. Celebrating the African Diaspora Heritage Month Proclamation marks an inspiring milestone for The African Think Tank and strengthens U.S.-Africa unity and collaboration. Johnson C.
