In a time of great anxiety, a lovely reminder from Bethany Davis, president of TBG's Bentonville team (and recent "40 Under 40" recipient) about striving for a life of poetic balance.
I've had a couple of people ask me what I meant in this interview by "living a life of poetic balance." and thought I'd share for anyone else tired of trying to connect to the term "work/life balance". This idea definitely isn't a Bethany original. It’s from my mentor, Daisaku Ikeda—a Buddhist leader and educator. His advice? Be deadly serious about your goals, but don’t forget to live a life that feels like a poem—where effort, rest, and joy exist in harmony. He compares it to conducting a great symphony. That analogy sticks with me because it turns the cringe of “work/life balance” into something that resonates in my life. A symphony’s beauty isn’t about each instrument playing the same amount of time. It’s about each sound coming in at exactly the right moment, with full focus and energy, to create something none of them could do alone. I do “want it all”—the family, the job, the service to my community and faith. But I want each to be additive to my life, this story, this poem I’m writing. It’s a work in progress, but aren’t all the best things? Here’s to more beauty, less burnout and a more poetic existence.

The Barcode Group team members Aric Annear and Avi Naik experienced Amazon Accelerate. Aric was particularly impressed by Amazon's Image and Video Generator using generative AI. "Video content for advertisers is becoming increasingly critical as the performance continues to prove out more over time," he said. "But many brands, even well-known, popular brands, have limited resources to produce new image and video content—even moreso to produce that content quickly." Aric predicts that, as the ability to produce compelling marketing content gets easier, advertising will become both more important and more competitive.
