Our scholarships truly transform the lives of our students! BASIC Fund alumni are 5x more likely to graduate college, are more civically engaged, and even volunteer more than their peers. About us
More than 100,000 children live in poverty in the San Francisco Bay Area. Because low-income families are left with no choice other than the one their zip code gives them, these children are too often stuck in an education system that fails to educate them, or even keep them safe. The BASIC Fund provides a way out for thousands of children every year. Founded in 1998, we are privately funded and aim to broaden the educational opportunities for low-income children through scholarships to the PreK-8 school of their choice. The BASIC Fund currently supports more than 3,500 students attending 249 private schools each year. We are a non-sectarian organization: parents choose the school for their children, not the BASIC Fund. Having supported over 26,000 students so far, it is the largest non-sectarian scholarship organization in the U.S. and a partner of Children's Scholarship Fund, a national coalition of scholarship organizations around the country. Scholarships are up to $2,750 per student/year, based on a sliding scale of household income and size. The students must be admitted to the school they choose, but there is otherwise no merit component. Once a family qualifies financially all siblings are included. Students receiving a BASIC Fund scholarship will continue to receive it through the 8th grade, regardless of when they began receiving the scholarship. The BASIC Fund also provides resources for families through our partnerships with other local organizations, these include vocational, after school programs, academic tutoring, mentoring and summer school options.

We were so honored to host BASIC Fund families, alumni, and school leaders at our Transforming Lives Luncheon this year! We especially want to highlight the incredible BASIC Fund parents, who sought out education alternatives to help their children succeed. Watch this video to meet Tasha, Molina, and Lily! Special thanks to St. Leo the Great School, Ilm Academy, and Charles Armstrong School.

The numbers are in: this year, BASIC Fund is supporting over 3,200 students! Because BASIC Fund families choose their children's #education, these students attend over 250 different schools in all nine Bay Area counties. Stay tuned next week to learn more about the communities we serve!

Last week, The BASIC Fund celebrated its second Annual Transforming Lives Luncheon, made possible by our Board of Directors and our generous sponsors: Prologis, Capital Group, Chevron, and KPMG. Together, we raised over $800,000 to support new scholarships, which will help our BASIC Fund scholars succeed through 8th grade and beyond. Thank you to everyone who made this event a success. See you next year!

Still floored at the incredible generosity of our community, and honored to be doing this important work!
When the hosts of The Five on Fox News Media talk frequently about San Francisco's woes, they often overlook the region's successes. For example, The BASIC Fund's Oct. 1 fundraising lunch quickly raised more than $800,000 for scholarships, so Bay Area students from low-income families can attend private schools from kindergarten to eighth grade. More than 92% of recipients are students of color.

This year, the average BASIC Fund family will earn $40,436/year, less than 30% of the cost of living in California. Early childhood education is the single most effective way to break the cycle of poverty, but with education costs on the rise, parents have to make difficult choices. By supporting education starting in Pre-K, BASIC Fund scholarships provide new opportunities for student success and allow new talent to thrive!

This weekend, in partnership with Larry Williams (a.k.a Bone Collector) and Team Ankle Breaker, LLC, The BASIC Fund hosted its first-ever B-Ball Extravaganza for alumni and their families. It was a fantastic way to bring families together through the love of sport and a fun way to kick off the new school year. A very special thanks to St. Leo the Great School for allowing us to use their facilities. To all of our alumni starting school soon, we wish you the best of luck! #BASICFund #BASICFundAlumni #BoneCollector #TeamAnkleBreaker #BasketballClinics
