Last week, we gathered with partners from Farmers for Monarchs and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) staff to discuss Monarch butterfly priorities. Members of this collaborative toured Monarch Joint Venture’s new campus and were also able to visit several farms where landowners are installing #pollinatorhabitat. There was a lot of dynamic discussion throughout the 2-day period, ending with the take home message that we need more high quality pollinator habitat in order for #monarchs to thrive.

This includes a higher amount of floral abundance and subsequent nectar resource than some other programs or existing habitat. These plants also provide cover for wildlife, seed and food for birds and other animals, and create a beautiful and diverse landscape. The Bee & Butterfly Habitat Fund will be back again this year at the Solar Farm Summit on July 8-10 in Chicago! Our Executive Director, Peter Berthelsen, will be presenting an update on our Solar Synergy program - a first of its kind innovative program that works with utility-scale #solar projects to establish large scale #pollinator habitat that provides multiple benefits including the extensive monitoring of pollinator population responses, carbon sequestration documentation and an increased opportunity for honey production.
