🚨 500 transfusions and counting! Austin-Travis County EMS recently administered their 500th whole blood unit to treat a local patient in the field. “We Are Blood is proud to work with our community of donors to supply ATCEMS’s pre-hospital transfusion program as they reach this tremendous milestone,” said our CEO, Marian Garrard. 🙌

This National Minority Donor Awareness Month, we’re highlighting the life-saving impact of BIPOC donors. 🩸 Patients often experience better outcomes when they receive blood from donors of a similar background, especially for conditions like sickle cell disease, which primarily affects the African American community. Yet, only 3% of the eligible population in Central Texas donates blood, and only a small fraction of those donations come from diverse backgrounds. We have the power to change that.
