For more than three decades, BCRF investigator Dr. Olivera Finn has pursued what some might call the holy grail of cancer research: a prevention vaccine. And now, thanks to pivotal BCRF funding, she’s testing one in a breast cancer clinical trial. The promising MUC1 vaccine is currently in trial and could one day prevent breast cancer. Her groundbreaking work brings us closer to a future where breast cancer may be a preventable disease. Last Friday, BCRF held its annual Symposium & Awards Luncheon to honor our global group of 260+ breast cancer investigators, which raised $2.75 million for lifesaving research! The event began with a symposium featuring a panel of five esteemed BCRF investigators and was followed by a luncheon hosted by journalist Anne Thompson, a breast cancer thriver. This year’s luncheon honored The Pink Agenda with the Sandra Taub Humanitarian Award for their extraordinary efforts to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research among young professionals, and their deep commitment to BCRF. Dr. Larry Norton presented BCRF's Scientific Director Dr. Judy Garber with the Jill Rose Award for Scientific Excellence for her outstanding contributions to clinical and translational cancer genetics that have advanced the care of patients and families with hereditary breast cancers. "Everything I do is to make her proud and there's nothing I want to work toward now more than raising money for a cure in her honor," she said.
