Only 23% of workers are fully prepared with the skills needed for the future, highlighting a significant gap. Many manufacturing leaders are addressing this through robust training programs and talent pipelines to maintain a competitive edge while supporting employees' career development. For the Pacific Northwest manufacturing community, collaboration across industry, academia, and government is key. These partnerships build innovative training models that strengthen the talent pool and create a workforce ready for the evolving landscape of advanced manufacturing. By embedding a culture of innovation and adaptability, the region can better meet technological changes and industry challenges head-on. https://lnkd.in/eTaQmaJJ World Economic Forum | Stephanie Wright | Kerry Ebersole Singh | #Manufacturing | #Workforce

𝐁𝐨𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐌𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝 ‘𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞’ 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐤𝐞 Boeing’s negotiations with 33,000 Machinists saw progress this week, aided by the Biden administration's involvement. The seven-week strike, fueled by union demands for substantial wage increases and pensions, highlights longstanding concerns over compensation. Boeing now expects significant cash outflows for the fourth quarter due to the strike’s impact. The strike’s effect is rippling through Boeing’s supply chain, with some suppliers already planning layoffs. Boeing, meanwhile, has raised $21 billion to address liquidity needs and stabilize operations. As Washington’s aerospace sector faces these disruptions, the outcome of the negotiations will influence not only Boeing’s workforce but also its long-term economic footprint in the region. https://lnkd.in/gitbEb3G The Seattle Times | Bloomberg | Julie Johnsson | Danny Lee 李嘉洪 | #Manufacturing | #Aerospace

𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐥𝐚𝐠𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐨𝐧 Washington’s manufacturing sector, especially aerospace, is still working to recover pre-pandemic job levels, lagging behind the national rebound. Why it matters: Our state experienced the sharpest drop in manufacturing jobs nationwide, with Boeing’s pandemic setbacks and production issues heavily impacting the economy. Since 2019, Washington lost 6.7% of its manufacturing workforce, while states like Texas and Florida have surged ahead in sectors like transportation and electronics. The path forward: Investments in specialized training and partnerships are helping Washington build a more resilient manufacturing base, reducing reliance on aerospace and preparing our workforce for diverse roles. https://lnkd.in/g2-vZNDE Axios | Christine Bui Clarridge | Emily Peck | #Manufacturing | #Washington

𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐬 2025 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 & 𝐌𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 Forrester’s 2025 Smart Manufacturing and Mobility predictions spotlight the industry’s drive toward electrification, automation, and global supply chain shifts. European last-mile delivery is set to go increasingly electric, while factories adopt practical robotic solutions over humanoid forms for efficiency. Yet, power grid limitations may slow the shift to renewable energy in manufacturing facilities. Workforce changes are also on the horizon, with major automakers likely scaling back digital teams, and Chinese manufacturers setting up closer to Western markets to reduce costs and navigate trade restrictions. These trends illustrate a delicate balancing act of innovation, workforce shifts, and global competition. https://lnkd.in/eUv866Tc The Manufacturer | #Manufacturing | #SmartManufacturing

3 𝐓𝐚𝐬𝐤 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞 To boost CNC productivity, focusing on offline versus online tasks is key. Online tasks add to machine usage time, while offline tasks don’t, and reducing production time hinges on eliminating, moving offline, or simplifying tasks. For example, keeping tools organized, having tolerances and offset registers clearly identified, and even programming trial machining processes can save significant time. These measures make setups faster and easier, enabling operators to perform tasks with less skill and fewer errors. Small steps like organizing workspaces, pre-providing tolerance specs, and automating trial machining processes create efficiency and limit reliance on skilled labor. This approach enables CNC operators, especially entry-level ones, to maintain machine operation without delays, maximizing CNC utilization and return on investment. https://lnkd.in/gcSnXsh8 Modern Machine Shop | #Manufacturing | #Production

𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐀𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐬 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐔.𝐒. 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐬 Reshoring is now a priority for U.S. manufacturers as supply chain issues and rising costs drive production back home. In 2023, $2.25 billion was invested in U.S. reshoring funds, with initiatives like the CHIPS Act paving the way for localized, resilient supply chains. Additive manufacturing (3D printing) supports this shift by enabling on-demand, local production that reduces global dependencies and waste, making it central to reshoring efforts. Yet, reshoring success hinges on reliable domestic material sources, skilled labor, and validation that additive-produced components meet industry standards. Sustained investment in infrastructure and workforce training is essential for reshoring to secure a competitive U.S. edge in global manufacturing. https://lnkd.in/graseV-u Supply Chain Brain | #Manufacturing | #SupplyChain
