On the heels of the launch of our Black Liberation and Just Transition Certification Program and relaunch of our community tools such as the Resource Hub, Policies for the People, and BIPOC in ECJ, The Chisholm Legacy Project will be closed September 2-6, 2024 to give our staff a moment to rest, recharge, and reflect. This rest will allow us time to replenish our physical and mental health ensuring we have the endurance and clarity needed to effectively advocate for systemic change. When we rest, it is a form of resistance and healing in a society that often exploits the labor of Black people. Our intentional rest defies the historical and ongoing pressures to be perpetually productive. It acknowledges our humanity, affirming our right to well-being and joy. By prioritizing rest, we are modeling sustainable activism and demonstrating that self-care and community care are integral to long-term movements.

About us
The mission of the Chisholm Legacy Project is rooted in the Just Transition Framework. The project serves as a vehicle to connect Black communities on the frontlines of climate justice with resources to traverse the path from vision to strategy to action plan to implementation to transformation. In support of frontline leadership, the project seeks to link movements and mainstream entities with the tools necessary to advance systems change centered in equity and justice. With Black women on the frontlines of advancing systems change, this project ensures that these leaders have the support they need as they transform society from extractivism to a living economy that cares for sacred relationships between people and with Mother Earth, through regenerative, cooperative, democratic systems.

“I am and always will be a catalyst for change.” -Shirley Chisholm Today, we celebrate the launch of the Fellowship for Liberated Futures (FFLF), a restorative program focused on reclaiming rest for Black women and femmes who are on the frontlines of social justice work. In the face of relentless attacks on fundamental human rights, remarkable Black women leaders and activists persevere, often with limited resources and in the shadow of their own trauma caused by systemic racism, bias, and white supremacy. We need to protect them at all costs. We exist to advocate for the well-being of these Black women and envision a liberated future where Black women and femmes can thrive in their full authenticity --creatively, brilliantly and whole. And we are proudly starting this journey with our inaugural cohort of 17 fellows who work at the intersections of climate, racial, and gender justice and will lean into rest as resistance over the next 18 months. They hail from Barbados and 11 states across the US with 619 years of combined wisdom and counting. Watch us rest, watch us rise. ✨ This program is led by Dr. Chera Reid, ProInspire, and The Chisholm Legacy Project. #ProtectBlackWomen #SupportBlackWomen #LiberatedFutures
