DID YOU KNOW?! Sometimes, even our best efforts to communicate well fall flat... Have you ever been frustrated because someone did exactly what you said, but it was not really what you wanted? For example, I am not a designer, so I want my designer to think about my vision and use their skills and talents to create the product, so I always say "here is what I am thinking, but you don't have to match it exactly." This, I am sure, is frustrating for them. But, sometimes, I just don't have the words to articulate what I see in my mind or want to see or feel. So, when they produce exactly what I described, I am frustrated. Ever been there? It is time to start talking about communication strategies that work when all the communication strategies you have tried are failing. And we must, in some cases, move from being so literal to thinking more deeply about the experience or feeling.
