We use law in service of the movement to end the school-to-prison pipeline.
About us
The Collective for Liberatory Lawyering (C4LL) works collaboratively within the movement ecosystem to dismantle the school to prison pipeline and create conditions for transformative education. We focus on interdisciplinary long-term monitoring of conditions in schools with a sharp focus on the human rights of the most marginalized students and parents.

Since starting the Collective, we have been in awe of the support and solidarity from our movement comrades along this journey. As co-founders, we have learned the importance of creating space to reflect on where we are and where we want to go. Last month, we had a co-founder retreat to reflect on the first three years of the Collective. This retreat helped us to further refine our strands of work and name the practices moving us toward our long-term vision, including community investigation and monitoring, community education defense, and movement-policy alignment. We got to dig deeper into our growth plan for C4LL and work through what steps we want to take to continue to realize our dream of a worker self-directed organization with a horizontal decision-making structure. We ended the retreat excited about our continued evolution as a collective. We’ve seen the importance of learning from others on this radical workplace creation and wanted to share a fantastic resource: Co-Powerment: a Hybrid (or Queer?) Approach to Co-Leadership written by Senior Strategist and Principal at Collective Struggle Praxis Advisory, Geoffrey Winder. Geoffrey’s reflections on shared leadership inspire important dialogues and we highly recommend checking out the series: https://lnkd.in/gsDammKQ We turned 3 y’all! And we are thrilled.

We are so thrilled to share that we had our first in-person Community Education Defense session on February 29th and that CADRE hosted the group in their powerful parent organizing space. In collaboration with Arts for Healing and Justice Network, C4LL is leading a 6-month cohort series on our Community Education Defense practice. The cohort is a space of shared learning where we are preparing community leaders, elders, and young people to play a direct intervention role in protecting students' rights. We had amazing community leaders from LA Youth Uprising Coalition, Youth Justice Coalition, Anti-Recidivism Coalition (ARC),Young Women's Freedom Center, The Professional Community Intervention Training Institute, and of course Community Asset Development Redefining Education (CADRE) parents centered us all in moving from ME to WE. To stay up-to-date on this amazing cohort, sign up for our newsletter at https://lnkd.in/erB8GNCA.
