Last week, I had the honor of moderating The GenAI Collective x Headline panel on How to Pitch Your AI Startup to Investors! Fundraising can often feel confusing and opaque for many founders, especially in the dynamic and competitive AI landscape. That's why we brought together a brilliant panel to help demystify the process. Shout out to the amazing Sasha Krecinic from Headline, Amber Illig from the Council, and Danielle Jing from Pear VC. We had a vibrant discussion covering what investors look for in startups, key evaluation criteria, unique diligence aspects for AI companies, recent AI investments and emerging trends. We even ventured into some spicy debates about the AI space, like how close (or far) we are from AGI. A big thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to the dynamic conversation!

🌟 Exciting News at The Council! 🌟 We're thrilled to welcome Vanessa Samaniego as our new Head of Community at The Council! 🎉 Vanessa S. brings a wealth of experience in community building, sales, and operations. She has successfully delivered 19 investor education programs, directly impacting 660+ VCs, angels, and accelerator managers. Additionally, she launched custom programs in 7 markets, including Canada, Colombia, Egypt, Japan, Kenya, Peru, and Saudi Arabia. Her expertise will be invaluable as we continue to build a tight-knit community of early builders from top technology companies who diligence and invest in startups alongside The Council Fund. This operator network serves as both a powerful sourcing mechanism for The Council Fund—where angels receive carry for referring deals we invest in—and a valuable resource for founders seeking access to top-tier operators. This is particularly crucial as we focus on transforming essential industries like agriculture, healthcare, logistics, supply chain, construction, and transportation through innovative software solutions. These sectors, ripe with opportunity for innovation, have historically lacked access to high-level tech talent. At The Council, we’re dedicated to supporting pre-seed companies that are driving Software’s Third Act—transforming the industries that keep our world moving. We see our firm as a bridge between traditional industries and the innovative approaches of top tech operators. Vanessa’s role is pivotal in deepening our connections within our operator community and ensuring our investments are backed by a vibrant, engaged network. This operator community is invaluable because it offers founders—from pre-seed to Series A—access to essential operational expertise that they may not otherwise afford. Vanessa will focus on nurturing and growing this community, providing strategic support to founders as they scale. In the future, we’ll introduce direct founder programs, but Vanessa's primary mission is to curate a top-tier operating network that connects founders with crucial resources and expertise. Welcome to the team, Vanessa! We're excited to see the incredible impact you'll make. 🚀 #VentureCapital #CommunityBuilding #SoftwareInnovation #Investment #TheCouncil #EssentialIndustries

Excited about what our portfolio company Aster is thoughtfully building for OBGYNs and their patients!

View profile for Fifi Kara, graphic

    Co-Founder & CEO at Aster

So excited to share this update. 🎉 August Launch. The shipping velocity at Aster has been second to none recently, with a changelog that’s being added to every couple of days with new features and today is no different. I’m delighted to share Aster’s August Launch, which includes three powerful new feature additions to the product. Each one of these are integral to any practice but make the experience for women’s health providers that much more simpler and streamlined. To start off with we have: Immediate postpartum and newborn charting ✨ Unique to birthworkers, we’ve designed and built effortless side-by-side charting that was developed by our providers and for providers. It helps practices capture all the critical details right after birth in a simple one-click format, making unnecessary typing no longer necessary. As well as that we have built in an NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) reference alongside a resus wizard, for the challenging moments that do occur during childbirth.   Integrated lab ordering 🔬 One of the things that always struck me was how many lab tests are required and needed during pregnancy and more broadly in women’s health. Knowing this ma y providers today have to sign into Quest or LabCorp as well as other lab test companies, request tests, wait for results upload them back into a charting system and do this multiple times a day. We’re so delighted that through our partnership with the incredible team at Vital (YC W20), we’ve built integrated lab ordering and result receiving into Aster. Literally eliminating the tiresome tasks that many had to do. E-Prescribing via DoseSpot  If you are licensed to prescribe in your state, you can now do so via Aster. Another incredible tool that is critical to your workflow and the care experience for patients. With DoseSpot our providers can order from a number of key medications, including devices such as glucose meters. With all these updates, we truly believe today is a good day to be an Aster provider. The amount of features we’re shipping on a weekly basis is overwhelming and we couldn’t have achieved it without the constant partnership of our customers. You can read more about it here, on our blog and watch me trying out one of the features below! https://lnkd.in/g7NYEHk9 cc Lailah Kara-Newton, MD, Nacho Vazquez, Jordan Smith, Connor O'Callaghan, Emily Varnam & Chris Balin

Check out why we are excited about startups built in the SF Bay Area *and* startups built in industrial hot spots like the Midwest.

Today I got to host one of our portfolio founders in town from Chicago! Nilay Parikh and I have been on a number of zooms together, but this was our first time meeting in person. Being a Midwest transplant myself, I love having a blend of geographies in our portfolio. SF is the best place to surround yourself with capital and tech talent. The Midwest and a couple of other regions are arguably the best for surrounding yourself with customers. Different strategies that can both work! Nilay’s company Arvist uses computer vision and digital twin technology to identity bottlenecks and risks in warehouses. They are taking off! 🚀 Shoutout to Gavin Gilfand for sharing this deal with The Council and Erika Bricky for helping with diligence!
