About us
Since 1983, The Doorways has generously provided temporary lodging and support for patients and their loved ones who need to be close to the hospital but not far from the feeling of “home.” Through generous donations, our independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization has become one of the largest hospitality houses in the country with 117 private rooms that allows us to provide heartfelt care that’s unavailable in our guests’ communities. Our guests are embraced 365 days per year in a healing, emotionally supportive environment where they can enjoy peace of mind.

Our partners at Sheltering Arms Institute are in the business of giving back. They not only provide outstanding medical care to their patients, they invest in their wellbeing by volunteering with us to provide delicious meals and delightful entertainment. We are so grateful for their commitment to service!
Our Brain Injury unit team had an incredible evening volunteering at The Doorways, another local nonprofit that provides lodging for out-of-town patients and family members whose loved ones are currently receiving medical care in RVA. They not only prepared and served dinner for guests, but physical therapist Cait provided some musical entertainment with her violin. 🎻 The team also raised funds to help The Doorways purchase new kitchen equipment to improve the space.
