Reunion in SF! Tony Pribyl and I go back quite a few years to my Newsweek West Coast Ad Director days when Tony was pretty new in our SF office. We got back together this week while I’m working in SF and it was great to compare work and family notes. But he said something that kind of blew me away. He said he always remembered something I told him while we were coming back from a sales call. He said I told him how great his progress was because I’m noticing he’s starting to sound like himself when he’s talking about our magazine. He asked if I remembered that and I had to confess I didn’t. But what blew me away is that is the exact same message I give today when I’m coaching speakers or sales teams for presentations. I encourage them to know their material well enough so they don’t have to think about it, which allows them to be more relaxed and “sound like themselves”. It was a gratifying “wow” moment.
