Happy Halloween week! As our chief academic officer Dr. Lauren Loquasto shares in this Fox 32 Chicago interview, Halloween provides an ideal time to introduce small doses of scary to help young children identify fear, work through the emotion and understand their support resources when they’re feeling a little overwhelmed. As a parent, what should you do if your child is scared while trick or treating this week? Check out the interview for Dr. Loquasto’s guidance.

It’s a big week at The Goddard School, as we’re hosting a pair of events in beautiful Vail, CO! We kicked things off with our Goddard Systems Advisory Council (GSAC) meeting. GSAC provides a forum for franchisee members to share their knowledge, advice and perspectives with Goddard Systems on matters relating to our brand, their respective geographic regions, and the franchise system overall. It was a productive and insightful meeting. Now we’re celebrating our top-performing schools at our Circle of Excellence celebration. To be selected for Circle of Excellence, schools must meet criteria that measure excellence in performance, education, family experience and brand stewardship. This event features a great mix of business and fun, combining working sessions with excursions and a celebratory reception to recognize the achievements of these schools and their owners. #GoddardFamily

Halloween season is here, and while this time of year is a lot of fun, decorations and costumes can be frightening for young children. In this Psychology Today article, Dr. Kyle Pruett, a member of our Educational Advisory Board, shares how a small dose of Halloween spookiness can help young children develop healthy emotional regulation skills. As Dr. Pruett writes, “since fears are a universal part of daily life, the earlier we help our children learn to manage them, the less anxiety will rule their lives down the road.”

In this K12 Digest® article, our chief academic officer, Dr. Lauren Loquasto, illustrates the value of inquiry-based learning—the foundation of our Wonder of Learning™ education program— and why the approach should be adopted by K12 educators. Not only does inquiry-based learning accelerate academic skill learning, Dr. Loquasto shares, “it also provides an ideal opportunity for children to practice and develop executive functioning skills and social-emotional skills.”

Yesterday, author Steve Metzger visited The Goddard School of Manhattan (Murray Hill) to read “Curious Blueberry the Carousel Horse” to the students. The children loved hearing about Curious Blueberry and her carousel animal friends who learn to find joy through curiosity and questions. Cues for the reader to ask open-ended questions throughout the story enable an engaging and individualized experience for each child. In addition, the book features guidance for families to practice inquiry-based learning—the foundation of our Wonder of Learning™ education program—at home. You can order a copy of “Curious Blueberry the Carousel Horse” here: https://lnkd.in/e-mdUzg2.
