Everyone knows someone. You might not realize it, or maybe you’ve been overlooking the signs. But the reality is, if 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men experience domestic violence, then chances are you know someone. They could be your coworker, your neighbor, someone you see at church, or within your community. We often think, “Not in my circle,” but the truth is, domestic violence is more common than we want to admit. It hides behind smiles and silence. That’s why it’s so important to be aware, to pay attention, and to offer support—whether or not they ask for it. Sometimes, simply knowing that someone cares can make all the difference. Let’s stop ignoring the red flags and start building spaces where people feel safe to speak up. #DomesticViolenceAwareness #SupportSurvivors #SeenHeardBelieved #EmpathyAtWork

We have a tendency not to talk about the hard stuff. The stuff that makes us turn and look the other way. But here's the truth—we can't keep looking away. Too often, we tell ourselves, "It's not my business." But domestic violence is everyone's business. It’s not just about stepping up in crisis, it’s about creating spaces where people feel safe to talk about what’s really going on, free of judgment. It’s about listening, supporting, and showing up. We can’t stay silent anymore. Let’s be the ones who make a difference. #EndDomesticViolence #SupportAndListen

Most of us understand domestic violence, but there's a deeper, often hidden form of abuse—coercive control—that strips away independence, safety, and a sense of self. Coercive control isn't just physical violence. It’s a strategic pattern of behavior where abusers isolate, manipulate, and dominate their partner. It can look like: Isolating you from your support system Monitoring your every move Controlling your finances and decisions Gaslighting, name-calling, and lying Threatening pets or loved ones This kind of abuse slowly erodes a person's freedom, trapping them in a life of fear and confusion. It's hard to see, but it’s devastating—and it’s happening in homes across the world. This isn’t just a private issue—it’s a community issue. Let’s come together to break the cycle of abuse and advocate for change. 👉 Join the conversation: What more can we do to support survivors of coercive control? 👉 RSVP for my upcoming talk at NKY SHRM to learn how we can make a difference in the workplace. #CoerciveControl #DomesticViolenceAwareness #SupportSurvivors #WorkplaceSafety #NKYSHRM #BreakTheSilence

Coercive control is an invisible form of domestic violence that strips survivors of autonomy, isolates them, and exerts relentless surveillance over their lives. It’s not always physical, but its impact is devastating. I’m proud to be speaking on this crucial topic at the NKY SHRM event this October, shedding light on the signs of coercive control and how we, as workplaces, can support those affected. Kentucky is making strides with Rep. Stephanie Dietz’s proposal to expand protective orders to include coercive control—this legislation could save lives by helping survivors access court assistance earlier. As Andrea Robinson, President of ZeroV’s board, powerfully stated, “The norm of silence only serves to hurt, isolate, shame, and stigmatize survivors.” Breaking that silence starts with us. Check on your loved ones, share resources, and raise awareness because domestic violence is not a private issue—it’s a community one. Let’s work together to create safe spaces for those suffering behind closed doors. #DomesticViolenceAwareness #CoerciveControl #NKYSHRM #BreakingTheSilence #SupportingSurvivors #WorkplaceSupport

Did you know an average of 20 people are physically abused by intimate partners every minute? This equates to more than 10 million abuse victims annually. 💔 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and it's critical for HR professionals and leaders to understand how domestic abuse impacts the workplace. Whether it’s absenteeism, decreased productivity, or employees feeling unsafe, domestic violence has far-reaching effects that we can’t afford to ignore. I’m excited to speak at NKY SHRM and discuss how we can create safer, more inclusive work environments for all employees, especially those in the LGBTQ+ community who often face additional barriers. We’ll explore practical steps to foster psychological safety and support those who may be suffering in silence. 🗓️ Date: October 29, 2024 ⏰ Time: 11:30 AM to 1:00 PM Location: 1369 Donaldson Highway, Erlanger, KY, 41018 Join me for this important discussion and learn how we can be advocates for change in our workplaces. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gsqshB49 #DomesticViolenceAwareness #PsychologicalSafety #InclusiveWorkplace #HRforChange
