34 years ago today, on July 26, 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law. From physical barriers to barriers to employment, the ADA has proved to be a monumental stepping-stone in the fight for equality and equal access because it requires that state and local governments, as well as businesses and nonprofits, make accommodations for people with all abilities. For people who are blind, DeafBlind, and blind with other disabilities, the ADA has helped mandate access to information that otherwise may not have been accessible. #ADA #AmericansWithDisabilities #ADA34

Fostering community is an important reason why the Lighthouse hosts a DeafBlind Retreat in late summer. “Many DeafBlind people are maybe the only DeafBlind person in their community, or they have a really small community. And this was a place for everybody to come together and connect with each other.” #DeafBlind #DeafBlindAwarenessWeek
