Yes, it’s true! #JobSeekers are experiencing one of the worst hiring markets in years. I’ve managed restaurants since 1995, owned and operated them since 2007 and have now been recruiting for many of the nation's leading restaurant and hotel groups since 2017. Aside from the pandemic, I’ve never seen such a frustrating #hiring lull. It’s the pits! No doubt about it. All that said, if I’ve learned anything along the way, it’s that markets shift. This one will too. While we navigate these uncertain times, it’s important to remember that change is the only constant. Current job seekers may become next years #hiring #managers, and todays hiring managers may join the #talent pool sooner than they’d like. Until the next big shift happens, it’s critical to stay focused on the things we CAN control, like: ❤️ Integrity: Regardless of your position or stress level, stay true to your core values. Always remember that honesty and transparency build trust, and trust is everything. Keep your word, don’t offer terms you can’t provide, and don’t accept a job you know you don’t want. 😎 Outlook: With the previous point in mind, LinkedIn nor a job #interview are appropriate venues to share your worst experiences. Did your last job suck the life out of you? Ok, but don't focus on that during an interview. Instead, share how your experience strengthened your values and taught you invaluable lessons that will improve your performance as a leader. “We really want a #culture builder” is one of the most common requests from my current clients. Your overall vibe says a lot about who you are. Pro-tip: Optimism wins! 📣 Network: “You can have everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.” - Zig Zigler; No truer words ever spoken. I will forever love that feeling of helping someone open the door to the next chapter of their life, and it has come back to me ten fold in my life, no doubt. Make sure you’re surrounding yourself (on and offline) with people who are inspiring, compassionate, share your core values and know that helping others is the #1 key to long-lasting success. 📚 Continued Learning: If you’re in the throes of job-hunting, try to focus one hour a day on your professional development. There are plenty of online courses, books, industry podcasts, and inspirational TED talks available for immediate and free consumption. Try to do at least one thing a day that is rooted in your desire to grow professionally. HOWEVER, if you just can’t listen to one more person talk about manifesting, then try to do one thing a day that reminds you of why you’re a rockstar, badass, and all-around awesome and necessary person!
