Announcing the Latest Edition of Field Indicators of Hydric Soils in the United States: A Guide for Identifying and Delineating Hydric Soils, Version 9.0 The Field Indicators of Hydric Soils in the United States guide, a critical resource for wetland identification and conservation, has been significantly updated in Version 9.0 by the USDA’s NRCS and NTCHS. This edition enhances accuracy with new region-specific indicators, refined hydric soil feature guidelines, and updated thickness requirements for some indicators. Key updates include tailored field indicators for distinct ecological regions, revised guidelines for recognizing redoximorphic features, and the elimination of outdated test indicators to improve efficiency. The guide also consolidates redundant indicators, integrates them for streamlined use, and provides an updated glossary and appendices, aiding professionals in applying the guide across diverse landscapes. ‼️ Only 4% of conservation funding goes toward marine ecosystems. SeaTrees is hoping to change that with the launch of SeaTrees Biodiversity Blocks, the world’s first marine biodiversity credits. The new financial model was just announced at the COP16 Biodiversity Conference in Colombia and will initially focus on three projects: 🇰🇪 A mangrove forest in Kenya 🇦🇺 A kelp forest in Sydney, Australia 🇫🇯 A coral reef in Fiji The project promises to improve transparency around resource allocation and the extent of restoration results. Given increasing concerns around carbon credit schemes recently, we look forward to seeing what impact SeaTrees’ initiative has on marine and wetland ecosystems.

What is environmental dredging❓ Environmental dredging may not sound like a whole lot of fun, but it's really important for maintaining habitats (for manatees and other sea life) and for ensuring navigable access for boats & ships, since the process removes sediments & debris from the bottom of lakes, rivers, boat ramps & more. Environmental dredging is also needed to remove bottom muck so that we have clean sediment into which we can plant seagrass.
