CEO Michael Happe details how Winnebago Industries has never met anything it couldn't turn electric. $WGO
The days of the cattle call boarding process you either love or hate will soon be over. Southwest announced it will end its first-come, first-served seating model and begin assigning seats to passengers beginning in 2025. The airline said travelers have soured on open seating—according to surveys, 80% of customers want an assigned seat and say open seating is the biggest reason for choosing another airline. While the decision is about customer preference, a shift to charging passengers extra for more leg room is one with the bottom line in mind—Southwest made the announcement on the same day it reported its Q2 profit fell 46% from a year earlier. There’s also pressure being applied by activist investor Elliott Investment Management, which has a ~$2 billion stake in Southwest and has called for new leadership as the carrier lags behind its rivals in financial performance. Southwest also announced it will begin offering red eye flights in February 2025.
