Today we're recognizing Strengthening the Sector grantee Arts Ed Data Project! Their research was shared by the Virginia Department of Education as an example of how fine arts education makes a difference in our children's attendance and school experience, supporting Virginia's efforts to end chronic absenteeism. 🎻 Seniors enrolled in four years of fine arts courses each year since 2020 demonstrate a 32% to 50% lower absenteeism rate than those who did not take a fine arts course during high school. 🎷 These findings hold true when comparing data across fine arts disciplines and for key variables such as race/ethnicity, enrollment in Free and Reduced-Price Meals programs, and English learners. About us
The Music Man Foundation is named after the Tony winning musical written by Meredith Willson. Meredith’s widow, Rosemary, started the Foundation in 1998 as the Meredith and Rosemary Willson Charitable Foundation and substantially increased the Foundation’s endowment upon her death in 2010. With a mission to support programs that use music to improve children’s lives, the Foundation currently focuses its investments in two initiative areas: core-curriculum music education and music therapy. Besides “The Music Man,” Meredith Willson wrote the musical, “The Unsinkable Molly Brown,” and beloved songs “It’s Beginning to Look Like Christmas” and the University of Iowa fight song.

Music education advocates in action! Today we're lifting up our Strengthening the Sector grantee, the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). In June, NAfME coordinated hundreds of music educators and music education advocates to visit Washington, D.C. for Hill Day. They met with legislators to urge support for programs and key legislation providing for music education. 📣 📷 by @AshleeChaseWilcox (Video includes photos of music educators and collegiates with NAfME music education leaders going to Capitol Hill, in a group shot on the steps, in meetings with elected officials, and in a singalong at the Taft Memorial Carillon in Washington, D.C.) #NAfMEHillDay #MusicEducation #MusicAdvocacy #ArtsAdvocacy #MusicTeachers #MusicInSchools

Spotlight on our Strengthening the Sector grantees! 📣 This summer Create CA and Arts for LA joined with 83 community-based organizations to raise concerns that some California school districts are: 🚨 Making decisions without input from their communities, and 🚨 Not complying with Proposition 28’s supplement requirements by using their funds to replace existing arts education funding. Read the letter they sent to the California Governor, State Superintendent, Senate President, and Assembly Speaker to express those concerns: https://lnkd.in/eRQkqhFe #AdvocacyinAction #Artsed #Artseducation #CreativeCalifornia #ArtStudent #ArtTeacher #EducationEquity #Equity #artedmatters #StrengtheningTheSector #Prop28

On this day in 1867, the Unsinkable Margaret "Molly" Brown was born. Her incredible life inspired our founder Meredith Willson's Golden Age musical, as well as a new, revised version of that musical with a new book and additional lyrics by Dick Scanlan. Thanks to Brett Boles for digging into the brilliance of the songwriting! #themtea #theunsinkablemollybrown #unsinkablemollybrown #happybirthdaymollybrown #musicals #offbroadway #musicaltheatre #musicaltheater #meredithwillson #broadway #songwriting #musiceducation
