GEM Fellow and @agriwatertech CEO, Dr. Bianca Bailey, is featured in this month's issue of Diversity is Action magazine (@div_in_action) for her trailblazing work! Dr. Bailey has developed an electrocoagulator: a device that purifies livestock wastewater for agricultural use. This system helps reduce expensive farmer discharge fines, produces clean water for multiple uses, and assists in preventing pollution. Read the article here: https://lnkd.in/g9TrMT8s Dr. Bailey is a 2024 Techstars WaterTech & Sustainability winner, Dept. of Energy Innovation Crossroads Fellow, White House Champion of Change for Women & Girls in S.T.E.M., STEM speaker, and saxophonist. Her career has been informed by: consulting in international development regarding water policy, design, and the implementation of water treatment technologies; and addressing water quality, management, and access in Africa, Asia, and America. Her company designs protocols, materials, and water treatment systems and tests the effectiveness of those items to mitigate phosphorus and other environmental contaminants best. Agriwater's goal is to reduce eutrophication and algal outbreaks regarding nonpoint and point source pollution in agriculture and beyond. Dr. Bailey, who graduated from Howard University (@howard1867) with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and the University of Illinois Urbana Champaign (@Illinois1867) with a PhD in Agricultural and Biological Engineering, is also interested in networking with professionals in the field of water policy to improve water quality for humankind. Water scarcity is becoming an increasingly serious global issue. #hiddenGEMs #GEM #GRADLab #fellowships #STEM #engineering #phd #freetuition #advancingscientificimpact #westillseescientificimpact #STEMeducation #STEMGEMs #scholarship

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 - October 15) honors the achievements of great Americans of Hispanic descent while creating a more inclusive society, where all voices are welcome and everyone's contribution matters. It also affords us an opportunity to celebrate the integral role Hispanic Americans have had in advancing our nation's efforts in STEM. GEM Fellows such as @patricagracia @josuelopez @isabelgallegos, @ileanacallejas, and @josesanchez are emblematic of the amazing and trailblazing work GEM Fellows are doing to advance scientific impact in America. From ocean conservation and environmental engineering to space exploration and sustainable technologies, they are only getting started! Join us as we celebrate their achievements. We selected San Antonio for this year's conference. In part because the majority of residents identify as Hispanic or Latinx. San Antonio is experiencing strong economic growth in 21st century industries such as healthcare, bioscience, aerospace, IT, and green technologies because of the city's smart and hard-working residents. If you are registered for the conference, we look forward to seeing you at the beautiful JW Marriott in lovely San Antonio! #GEM #hispanicheritagemonth #GEM #fellowships #STEM #engineering #phd #freetuition #advancingscientificimpact #westillseescientisticimpact #hiddengems
