  • What’s the difference between ulcerative colitis & Crohn’s disease? Know this for NCLEX exam & nursing school. Ulcerative colitis - remember that it is means inflammation & col means colon. It’s found in the large intestine and colon area. UC has left lower quadrant pain with consistent patches of inflammation and is characterized by bloody diarrhea. Ulcerative colitis penetrates the inner lining of the abdominal wall only. Crohn’s disease - goes from the gum to the bum. Pain is typically noted in the small intestine and can move into the large intestine as well. Patches of inflammation occur throughout the GI tract. Crohn’s disease involves entire thickness of the abdominal wall. Crohn’s dx is characterized by diarrhea without blood. Hit that follow button for more NGN/nursing school tips! • What do NGN test items look like on NCLEX exam? Nursing students can look at an NCLEX RN exam preview on NCSBN. The website is: https://lnkd.in/erK4k9wp The website shows what NGN case studies will look like on NVLEXexam. Typically the NGN six question case studies will start out with one tab and add another as it goes along to answer more questions. Nursing students can also look at what traditional NCLEX questions look like on the website as well. Hit that follow button for more NGN/nursing school tips! • Are you looking for a good NGN qbank with NGN test items? I use the NGN Test Item Book by Linda Silvestri with all the students I tutor for the NCLEX exam. I use this qbank because the NGN items aren’t overly difficult & they aren’t too easy either! This qbank is right in the middle. It has 7 bowties & numerous single & 6 question case studies on pediatrics, maternity, mental health, & med/surg. These are all the areas nursing students are tested on for NCLEX exam! • Watch me on UWorld for test taking tips on physiological integrity! Tip #1 - if it’s an NCLEX question related to a procedure learned in nursing school, visualize the procedure. What are the steps for urinary catheterization? Use this process to narrow it down the right answer! Tip #2 - if the NCLEX question asks what would you as the nurse do FIRST? If there’s only one thing you can do for the client, what’s the most important thing you could do? Tip #3 - if the NCLEX question ask what’s the PRIORITY as the nurse, use ABC’s airway, breathing, circulation to answer the question correctly. • What’s the difference between the RN & PN (LPN) NCLEX exam? There are no notable differences on NGN content on the RN and PN exam. The only difference between the RN & PN (LPN) NCLEX exam is one area on the client needs area. The RN NCLEX exam has management of care under safe & effective care environment. Management of care focuses on delegation to the UAP as well as the LPN & patient care assignments. The PN (LPN) NCLEX exam has coordinated care under safe & effective care environment. The difference is that the LPN exam has self limitations with tasks & assignments. Hit that follow button for more NGN/nursing school tips! • How many hours daily should you study for the NCLEX exam? Nursing students don’t need to study for “set” number of hours daily. Do this instead: if you’re working do 25 client needs questions and 25 content questions daily. If you’re a non- working nursing student, do 30 client needs questions and 30 content questions daily. Add 5 pharmacology questions a day as these can be a bit harder & take more time! Remember it’s not a certain number of hours of studying it’s .. understanding, breaking down the questions, keywords, & rationales are vital for success! Nursing students, how do you know when you’re ready for NCLEX? Write down your scores daily in the separate clients needs areas. Write down your percentages to see improvements score wise. You’re ready for NCLEX when your scores are consistent according to the qbank you’re using. The second sign you’re ready to take NCLEX exam is when you are scoring 79% or more on NGN items. The last sign you’re ready to take NCLEX is when your content scores on adult, pediatrics, maternity, & mental health are consistent. Seeing an in ease in your scores will boost your confidence! • How important are candidate performance reports when nursing students fail NCLEX? Candidate performance reports aré important but there are a few caveats.. The first caveat: if you’ve failed NCLEX ex several times your candidate performance report may not be as accurate. Scoring may go up or down in the client needs areas. Scoring may be lower due to stress, anxiety, or getting content questions you were unfamiliar with. If you’ve failed NCLEX exam once, use your candidate performance report to look at areas of possible weakness. But, don’t hyperfocus on client needs areas that you scored below passing in. Instead, use a well rounded approach and study all the client needs areas equally. Hit that follow button for more NGN/nursing school tips! • POV: Nursing students: “We were told not to study for NCLEX.” Nursing students come to me for NCLEX tutoring and this is stated by many students over and over. My concern with this statement is where is the evidence based practiced to back this statement? I have yet to find any evidence to support this statement. If this statement were true, NCLEX content writers would be out of jobs and qbanks such as Saunders, Kaplan, and UWorld wouldn’t be resources for nursing students. Let’s change the rhetoric to one that’s based in science not in he said/she/said.
