The Plant Exchange is a community organization that encourages resource sharing, reuse and recycling.

About us

Started in a front yard in 2007 and with 75 attendees, 10 years later we draw 2000 participants, 250 volunteers where 3500 plants, tools and supplies change hands. The Plant Exchange encourages reuse, recycling and organic living. The flagship program is the free semi-annual event where gardeners, landscapers, urban farmers, and beginners come to exchange plants, equipment and information about ways to make our urban environment more sustainable, aesthetic, and healthy. The Plant Exchange creates strong neighborhood connections, encouraging green practices and support Oakland’s designation as one of the greenest cities in the country. The Plant Exchange also hosts a Monthly Urban Gardening Speaker Series educating the community on gardening, tree pruning, soil, etc.
