Monday means business in The Press Democrat! After months of hard work by the team at Sonoma Media Investments, LLC and the North Bay Business Journal, starting today subscribers to The PD will have access to the North Bay's leading business publication as part of their membership. With three dedicated business reporters, and a fourth coming soon, we’re committed to covering the wine industry, tourism, banking, real estate, health care, agriculture, insurance and other economically relevant topics at a time when other local news organizations are scaling back business reporting or have eliminated it altogether. https://lnkd.in/gJu_fgd4

Many, many thanks to Edward Booth, Bryce Martin and Tarini Mehta for joining me yesterday at the Napa Town & Country Fair to spread word about The Press Democrat’s expansion, now 1-year-old, into Napa County. We’ve tripled our Napa County subscribership during that time, and I can’t wait to see where this team leads us a year from now. Also, be on the lookout for a third reporter to be joining us in Napa before the year is out; we’ve interviewed several talented journalists for that role and continue to source candidates.

It's not about the awards. It's about coverage of violence in our schools; it's about providing aid to fire victims; it's about the decimation of poultry; it's about the pain of war 50 years later. It's about representing our communities and amplifying your stories and voices. It's not about the awards, but it is about our commitment to local, community journalism for California's North Bay. Congratulations to the entire team at The Press Democrat and Sonoma Media Investments, LLC Help us spread the news at https://lnkd.in/gs5PXm9h

This one has been in the works for a while, and I am thrilled to finally get to announce it officially: The Press Democrat Journalism Trust is proud to partner with Benovia Winery in presenting 'Good Press,' a 2022 Russian River Pinot Noir, with proceeds from every bottle helping to fund independent, local journalism in the North Bay. Thanks to the generosity of the owners, for every $49 bottle purchased, $60 will be donated to the PDJT. This is a limited run, so order yours today! Congratulations Angela Ramirez, a recipient of our Norma & Evert Persons' Journalism Scholarship! Angela recently graduated from Analy High School, and will be attending SRJC in the fall pursuing their Journalism program. She will receive $2,500 annually, renewable up to $10,000 over the course of four years. Additionally, Angela will be provided professional development opportunities in the form of assigned mentors and paid summer internships. Angela’s family moved from Jalisco, Mexico to California when she was two years old. Since then, she has experienced a difficult home life that despite all odds inspired her to pursue journalism throughout her time at Analy High School, where she recently graduated and ended her term as Editor-in-Chief for The West County World. Angela made an incredible impact on her school’s paper, including getting the paper out of debt from previous leaders and changing their printing company from the East Coast to a local printer in Santa Rosa. Her dedication to journalism goes beyond school commitments, as she has already started a Digital Certificate in Journalism at SRJC ahead of her Fall enrollment. She even collaborates with her students at CASTLE Pre-School to create comics for the paper, “giving opportunities to those who otherwise would be oblivious to the world of journalism and creative writing!”.  Angela’s pursuits of journalism have not come easy, and she has sacrificed more than most to be where she is today. Her grit shines through in her work, and we are fortunate to have such a devoted journalist rise in our community.
