Election Day is 11 days away! Do you know how you're getting to the polls? If you don't have a car, there a couple other ways you can get out to vote: 🚗Lyft, the rideshare app, is offering a 50% discount on a rideshare, bikeshare, or scooter ride when using the code VOTE24. 🚏GRTC is FREE! During the pandemic, GRTC stopped collecting fares, and continues to be zero fare. The West Laburnum Ave and Rosedale Ave stop on the 91 line is a 12 minute walk from the Office of the General Registrar, where any resident of the City of Richmond can vote early.
About us
The ability to read is something most of us take for granted. It is something we assume every adult is able to do, but that is not true for one in six adults in metro Richmond. Every important social issue is impacted by low literacy. The inability to read creates huge barriers for an adult trying to function in society. It impacts health, employment, housing and parenting. Illiteracy traps families in a cycle of poverty that is hard to break. The READ Center’s mission is to help adults with low-level literacy develop basic reading and communication skills so they can fulfill their goals and their roles as citizens, workers, and family members. This mission is accomplished by providing classroom instruction, one-to-one tutoring, and educational resources to support students. Want to help? You can make a significant impact by helping adults in our community learn to read. There are many opportunities to volunteer with The READ Center in locations throughout metro Richmond. Learn more on our website, www.readcenter.org. Our services are FREE to adults 18 and older. For more information and to refer someone for help, please call 804-288-9930.

The READ Center's student formed and led book club, READ Out Loud is currently in its second session! This round, they will be reading two books: "Chicken by Charlie" by Tana Reiff and "Jumped In" by William Kowalski. They have already finished Chicken by Charlie, and are now excitedly moving on to Jumped In! The books for this session were generously donated over the summer through our Amazon Wishlist, so thank you to those who gave! Your support means the world to us 📚💙
