When my nursing background influences my rescue. Christina is our newest rescue. Her story was unique. Most people don’t have farm pigs as pets. We were contacted by a man who had just been diagnosed with a serious illness that would cause him to be unable to care for his pet farm pig. We’ve been closed to intakes for most of the year due to the current state of the economy and price increases. But, as a nurse I couldn’t stop thinking about this beautiful gal (who didn’t have a name at the time.) I could not find a home or sanctuary for her. Sanctuaries are full and struggling. And no one wants a pet farm pig. Eventually, as we approached the deadline, I knew we needed to help this gal and her dad! He desperately wanted to give her a good life and send her to sanctuary. When we arrived onsite, we quickly found that Christina was at least 600 lbs, not 400. For 2 nights we attempted to load Christina. She has been living in a small pen with limited access for exercise. She’s been eating buckets of human food. So, she is not able to stand and or walk for any length of time. We got her near the ramps of the trailer both nights, but then she literally collapsed out of fear and exhaustion. We tried our Daisy sling which is for large animals who are down. But this was not successful either because Christina is awake and alert, so she panicked and walked right out of the sling. We formulated a plan to have Christina’s dad place a trailer right outside her pen door and only feed her on the trailer during the week, to get her used to going on. Yesterday was the team was able to successfully shut the trailer door before Christina could back out. Simple, no stress - which is exactly what Christina needed. Christina is home. ❤️🩹

We try our best at TRFR to make sure our residents experience the good life. Our sheep area is serene and peaceful. It's magical being in the woods. It's perfect for the sheep with all the shade and trees to keep them cooler. TRFR is home to 22 sheep - 6 are motherss that get to live out their lives with their children. Shirl, shown here, is son to mother Monique. He lives his life with his mom and brother Kelley, as he should. Peace Begins on Your Plate.

Today is Giving Tuesday! Our need for hay is approaching and we need to raise $11,000 to cover it! This will provide hay for our 80+ residents for 3 months. The good news is that today, in honor of Giving Tuesday, we have a generous $2,000 match! This is huge and we need this! We promised our residents the best care when we took them in - so we have to keep pushing to provide that to them🩵 While this isn’t a new exciting rescue, I wanted to tell Mickey’s story. He has a voice since coming to TRFR. He was terrified at the auction when I saw him, and just look at the difference in his eyes now. He knows he’s safe and loved🩵 Please help us continue care for our wonderful residents by making a small donation🩵 Thank you 🩵🙏 🩵https://lnkd.in/ghkD2B5h

Today is World Vegan Day. I became a vegan when I bought some chicks, like many do for eggs. And quickly fell in love with them and couldn't imagine harming them or anyone else like them. I attended a live animal auction and that was it. And then TRFR was born. I ate meat and animal products most of my life. I can promise you it's not that hard nowadays! Please ask! Please comment your favorite vegan products and food below. I would love to help those that are Interested in veganism. I don't judge, I was a huge cheese fan - I get it. I'm here to help🐥 #veganforthem #worldveganday #veganfortheanimals
