About us
SCI is North America’s largest and most comprehensive agency for mariners and seafarer services. Learn more about how we make a difference in the maritime community: SEAMENSCHURCH.ORG. — — Founded in 1834 and affiliated with the Episcopal Church—but interfaith and inclusive in terms of its trustees, staff, and service to mariners—the Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI) is the most comprehensive mariners’ service agency in North America. Annually, its chaplains visit thousands of vessels in the Port of New York and New Jersey and along 2,200 miles of America’s inland waterways extending into the Gulf of Mexico. SCI’s maritime education facilities provide navigational training to over 1,600 mariners each year through online learning and simulator-based facilities (located in Houston, TX and Paducah, KY). The Institute and its maritime attorneys are recognized as leading advocates for merchant mariners by the United States Government, including the US Congress, the US Coast Guard, and the Department of Homeland Security, as well as the United Nations, the International Maritime Organization, the International Labour Organization and maritime trade associations.

SCI is proud to have partnered with The American P&I Club on this important resource, and as always, we stand with mariners and seafarers in supporting their mental health and overall well-being. Check out the link below for valuable seafarer wellness information.. #WorldMentalHealthDay
Seafaring can be a prestigious and rewarding career, but the unique demands of maritime life can lead to stress, impacting physical health, mental well-being, and workplace morale. This can apply to mariners whether they are on long sea voyages, coastal routes, or working on inland waterways. Ahead of World Mental Health Day, the Managers of The American P&I Club and Eagle Ocean Marine would like to highlight crew wellness and draw Members' attention to the Club’s Seafarer Wellness page, offering resources and guidance developed in collaboration with the The Seamen's Church Institute: “What’s on your Mind” reviews some of the common risk factors involved in the development of adverse conditions of mental health and recommends measures to prevent or treat an occurrence onboard. “Caring for Seafarers' Mental Wellbeing” is intended to help seafarers and others identify common psychological reactions to traumatic events and acute stress and to assist them through early intervention techniques. “Seafarer Mental Health Guide” provides guidance to help seafarers and ship operators better understand the factors contributing to mental health challenges for seafarers and what can be done to prevent and mitigate such effects on crews. Explore the full resources here: https://lnkd.in/eRnf_kM Members are encouraged to review these materials and contact the Managers for further guidance. #LossPrevention #CrewWellness # WorldMentalHealthDay #AmericanPandI #EO_Marine

A bit delayed, but our sincere thanks to the Association of Bi-State Motor Carriers. Our International Seafarers' Center takes immense pride in being a resource and place of respite for the entire Port of New York and New Jersey community, and we were truly honored to have our efforts recognized with the Port Community Partnership Award back in September. #SeamensChurch #PortNYNJ
