This September, we're spotlighting oral histories from JFK authors and researchers, showcasing varied perspectives to demonstrate our history museum's neutral stance on the assassination, allowing guests to make their own judgments about the events of November 1963. #history #jfk #authors #research

Calling all #history teachers! Explaining presidential debates to students can be tricky if they’ve only seen the modern day versions. Take them back to the first televised presidential debate! It took place between then-Senator John F. Kennedy and Vice President Richard Nixon nearly 64 years ago this month. The Museum’s Education Department developed the lesson plan “Debating the Issues in the 1960 Campaign,” a hands-on lesson about that debate, paired with a live debate activity over some of the 60s era issues that still spark discourse today. Discover this lesson and many more for middle and high school grade levels at https://lnkd.in/g_ibsFa6 today. #debate2024 #jfk #education Image credit: Third televised Kennedy-Nixon presidential debate, October 13, 1960. Our August focus on #popculture has come to an end, but we’ll leave our final feature here- on a few vinyl records we have in our collection. Did you know a comedic parody album, “The First Family,” was a Grammy winning, Billboard chart topping hit for 1963? Prior to President Kennedy’s passing, this type of humor was quite popular. We’re willing to be you or your parents had this album at one point. #history #jfk

Early Giving has begun for #northtexasgivingday2024. We're raising funds to help share President Kennedy’s legacy and preserve history for future generations. Your gift helps students, families and visitors across the globe connect the past to the present. Knowing the history of what happened in 1963, is the first step to avoiding repeating it in the future, knowing what could have been is the hope a nation can build upon for tomorrow. Give during early giving or give on North Texas Giving Day! https://lnkd.in/grzsWMYn

#Didyouknow There used to be a wax museum in Fair Park. And in September of 1964, the Southwestern Historical Wax Museum put not one but two assassination related dioramas on display. Learn more about this #popculture oddity in this video.

We are happy to announce NBC DFW's donation of local news footage from WBAP-TV (now KXAS-TV) spanning from 1956-1983. The NBC 5 Archive completes the Museum's collection of broadcast stations from 1963 which also includes WFAA-TV, KRLD-TV and KTVT-TV. We are currently making efforts to digitize all of this material and make it available for public viewing later this year. View highlights below. #HistoricalFootage #MuseumCollection
