Our Vision for the Future - The SUDC Foundation’s Strategic Plan for 2024-2027 is more than just a roadmap—it’s our promise to the community. We are taking deliberate and meaningful steps toward a world where no family has to endure the tragic and unexplained loss of their child. 💛 With the unwavering dedication of our Board of Directors, staff, and community partners, we are confident in our ability to continue making a significant impact in raising awareness, funding research, and supporting families. Together, we are moving closer to a future free of SUDC. This journey is one we cannot take alone. Promoting awareness, advocating for research, and supporting those affected by sudden unexplained death in childhood.
About us
The SUDC Foundation is dedicated to increasing the awareness of sudden unexpected deaths in childhood, and funding crucial research to better understand and prevent these tragedies. We are the only organization worldwide devoted solely to the needs of families and professionals touched by unexpected/unexplained deaths of children. SUDC is the sudden, unexpected death of a child twelve months and older, which remains unexplained after a thorough case investigation is conducted and other possible causes have been ruled out. It is considered a category of death, not a diagnosis. Although the occurrences are rare, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported, in 2015, that 393 children were lost due to deaths that were sudden and unexplained. Of those deaths, 216 were children aged one to four. Since its inception in 2014, the SUDC Foundation has funded crucial research, helped hundreds of families, and led many advocacy efforts, including the successful passage of the Sudden Unexpected Death Data Enhancement and Awareness Act, which was signed into law by President Obama in December 2014.

🏃♀️ Support Stacey Hametz from Granite Springs, NY, who is gearing up to take on the NYC Marathon next month as part of TEAM SUDC! Stacey’s connection to the cause runs deep, as she’s running to honor the memory of her close friend’s son, Zaid, who was lost to Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC). 💙 https://bit.ly/4gX8B2e Stacey is driven to support the SUDC Foundation, knowing firsthand how much it has impacted Zaid’s family and so many others affected by this devastating loss. Every step she takes in her training is motivated by thoughts of Zaid and the families who push through their own challenges every day. During the marathon’s toughest moments, especially the last six to eight miles, Stacey plans to draw strength from Zaid’s memory to keep pushing forward. This journey is about more than just the 26.2 miles—it’s about raising awareness, supporting families, and running for a cause that hits close to home. As she crosses the finish line, Stacey will carry with her the spirit of Zaid and all the children affected by SUDC. Let’s cheer Stacey on and help her reach her goal! 💪✨ https://bit.ly/4gX8B2e #TEAMSUDC #NYCMarathon #RunForACause #SuddenUnexplainedDeathInChildhood #SupportSUDC #RunningForZaid #CharityRun #GraniteSpringsNY #RaiseAwareness
