October is National #WorkAndFamilyMonth, which encourages employers to foster and showcase healthy and balanced work cultures. With more than 25 family connections within the company, we will proudly share several stories throughout the month that showcase how TTG has become a place where family can work and prosper together. Today's feature is on Kimberly McNeal, her son Keenan McNeal and sister Laura McCoy. Kimberly came to TTG in 2017 and is currently serving as Project Manager over several projects. “I love the people I work with and love coming to work every day … and I know that’s not the norm for most people so I feel incredibly lucky! What we do here at TTG is so special and has incredible significance. And now that we’re 100% employee-owned, I think EVERYONE should get to work at such an awesome company, and I’ll tell anyone who will listen!” Her son Keenan was listening, and when a knee injury found him looking for a new line of work earlier this year, he jumped at the chance to come work at the TTG shop in Ohio and learn from the best in the business. Then, when an HR position came open, Kimberly knew just the person for the important role … her sister Laura. However, rather than being recommended directly to management by her sister, Laura wanted to earn the opportunity to join the T-Team, so she applied online just like everyone else. The rest, as they say, is history. #WorkWithPurpose

The notion of a workplace being “family” is often overstated, but there’s merit to the references at TTG. In fact, there are around 25 family connections within the company! This happens because team members have valued their experience to the point they’ve given the ultimate endorsement – referring spouses, family and close friends to #WorkWithPurpose alongside them. (They receive a bonus for those referrals as well! 💵) Here are just a few of those family connections we’re celebrating for #NationalFamilyDay. We’ll share many of their stories in October for #WorkAndFamilyMonth.

Working at TTG can lead you to some fascinating and beautiful places. Almost 70 miles west of Key West lies the remote Dry Tortugas National Park. This 100-square mile park is mostly open water with seven small islands, accessible only by boat or seaplane. The area is known for its famous bird and marine life, legends of pirates and sunken gold, and military past as the home of magnificent Fort Jefferson. TTG will be entrusted with repairs on the fort's historic Engineering Officer’s Quarters that will involve fabrication and installation of 34 new wood shutters, slate and copper roofing repairs, carpentry, brick and painting repairs all on the exterior of the structure. We're honored to be selected by National Park Service for the project. #WorkWithPurpose 📷: NPS

Did you know TTG has specialized equipment, skills and training to remove graffiti? If this unfortunate need arises for your structure, it is important to consult with top conservators on the best removal methods. Many clients attempt removal on their own through chemical treatment or power washing, which often further damages the historic surface. For this project shown at the Historic Metro Nashville/Davidson County Courthouse, TTG used laser cleaning in combination with other techniques to effectively and safely remove damage from historic limestone, granite and bronze surfaces. #WorkWithPurpose

The blended slate roof installed at Lookout Mountain Presbyterian Church has many benefits, as it is a natural and environmentally friendly product that is energy-efficient, fire-resistant and durable. Slate roofs can last well over 100 years, meaning the restoration of this historic church will endure for generations. On Lookout Mountain's Pillar & Ground Podcast, TTG CEO summarized why this focus on quality is so important: “It’s centered in a belief that historic buildings are a part of our heritage and we are a link from our past to today’s present to our future, and without our efforts and the stewardship of these buildings to care for them in the manner that we do, these buildings wouldn’t be here for decades and in some cases even centuries, and if we do our job well today, we’ll preserve these buildings for generations to come. And that’s the entire point and mission of our company. ” - Rick Freitag

When an architectural concrete balustrade has been around since 1896, it's worth a close assessment – both to determine where treatment may be needed for preservation, but also learn what critical factors have led to its incredible longevity. Field work for this assessment included metal detection to identify and map rebar placement in the balustrade members, sound testing to determine locations and levels of separation in the concrete, photographic documentation of the patterns of distress and cracking, and core samples to be taken to our partner Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc.'s lab for material testing. Comment below if you're interested in learning about the findings!
