This past weekend, TPL’s CEO Diane Regas and Maine State Director Betsy Cook were honored to attend the ribbon cutting for the Tekαkαpimək Visitor Center at Maine’s Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument! Highlights included remarks from Penobscot Nation Chief Francis and U.S. Secretary of Interior Deb Haaland, who highlighted the importance of Indigenous-led conservation. Penobscot Nation, in collaboration with Trust for Public Land and National Park Service, is working to reclaim and protect nearly 30,000 acres of ancestral land known as Wáhsehtəkʷ. The effort will also create much-needed southern access to the national monument so visitors can access places like the visitor center. Explore this effort: https://lnkd.in/ebz5cW8k

The Appalachian Trail is iconic and steeped in cultural significance, but the landscapes that make this trail unforgettable are still at risk. Step by step, we are working to preserve the areas surrounding the A.T., including nearly 200 acres within the Tyringham Shaker Settlement Historic District—one of the earliest villages founded by Shakers arriving from Europe in 1792. By preserving this landscape, we’re protecting not only a piece of Massachusetts history, but also the unforgettable views along the Appalachian Trail. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/g9j2snJT

That's why we’re partnering with community members, partner organizations, and leaders in cities and towns across the U.S. to create parks and protect public land where they’re needed most. Parks and programming go hand-in-hand to create spaces that are accessible and welcoming to everyone. We're partnering with Design Trust for Public Space and City Parks Foundation on "Untaped," which aims to remove the barriers that make hosting events and programming in public spaces, like streets, sidewalks, parks, and plazas, challenging for many organizations in New York City. 🔗Learn more at bit.ly/untaped.
