About us
The Union League Legacy Foundation is now @Founding Forward, a national, a nonprofit 501(c)3 civic education organization uniting the Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge and the Union League Legacy Foundation. As Founding Forward, we will continue to inspire students and the greater community to be engaged and responsible citizens, guided by the United States Constitution and the Union League’s commitment to freedom and free enterprise. Founding Forward joins two organizations that share a belief in the importance of the foundation upon which our country and society stand, and a common mission to educate future generations on that foundation and their duty to carry it forward. Union League’s educational programs, scholarships, exhibits, lectures, historic collections, and other activities are ongoing within Founding Forward, but with more resources, greater reach, and a bigger impact. We will also continue to preserve the Union League House in Philadelphia and operate the Heritage Center museum space.

Today is the anniversary of a very important day in our nation’s history. 159 years ago today at Appomattox Court House in Virginia, Confederate General Robert E. Lee formally surrendered to Union General Ulysses S. Grant. This moment effectively ended the American Civil War, the four-year period that resulted in the deaths of 620,000 American soldiers. This day is one of reconciliation and celebrating the reunification of the United States of America. #CivilWar #RobertELee #AmericanHistory #Confederacy

Congratulations to our Good Citizenship Awardees!!! 🏆 These incredible students join a group of over 18,000 GCD alumni who have participated in demonstrated hard work and fair play, have personal attributes of honesty, courage, tolerance, curiosity, and loyalty, and endeavor to follow and uphold the principles of American patriotism. We can’t wait to see what they accomplish next. Thank you to our generous sponsors, leaders, facilitators, and volunteers for helping us make this day possible for the students. When the Union League was formed in 1862, the nation was divided, and the League worked to support the Union, and the policies of President Lincoln. In 1947, The Union League Legacy Foundation was formed to educate and inspire engaged citizens guided by the Constitution of the United States and the values of freedom and free enterprise. This year marked another major milestone in our history, as we joined with Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge to become Founding Forward. This merger of two organizations with a shared mission and a long partnership will bring our work to an even higher level. Learn more at www.foundingforward.org!
