We were so happy to have you this summer and we're glad the experience was as rewarding for you as it was for us!
As I settle into my senior year, I have been reflecting on my time as an acquisitions editor intern at The University of South Carolina Press this past summer. I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have interned with such a dynamic and supportive team. A special thank you to Ehren Foley and Aurora Bell for their mentorship and guidance throughout my experience. One of the most rewarding projects I executed was the development of a Peer Reviewer Database, which helped streamline the peer review process for future interns and employees. This project, along with consolidating a portfolio of work by the end of the summer, allowed me to dive deeply into the acquisitions process. USC Press gave me a holistic view of everything that goes into the acquisitions editing department. From reaching out to peer reviewers, sending invoices, and writing cover memos, to formatting manuscripts, I gained invaluable hands-on experience that exceeded my expectations. USC Press also facilitated opportunities to learn beyond the acquisitions department, including informational interviews with the marketing and EDP teams. I’m especially appreciative of the supportive and knowledge-driven culture fostered at USC Press, where every employee genuinely cared about my development and future success. This internship was an unforgettable experience that I will carry forward as I continue to pursue future publishing opportunities. Thank you to USC Press for your dedication to your interns and to the academic publishing field.
