  • We are champions of the National Partnership for Student Success (NPSS), a diverse coalition that connects nonprofits, school districts, state and local education agencies, federal agencies, philanthropy, and national and community organizations to support increased access to and implementation of student support programs, provides technical assistance and research to enhance program effectiveness, and helps to recruit AmeriCorps members and volunteers to the effort. All students deserve the opportunities and support they need to succeed. Despite the heroic efforts of schools, educators, and families, the pandemic exacerbated educational and mental health challenges and widened long-standing inequities and opportunity gaps. To address these challenges, the President has called for Americans to become tutors, mentors, success coaches, post-secondary transition coaches, and wraparound/integrated support providers. In pursuit of this goal, the NPSS focuses on these five key, evidence-based areas to support the needs of students both in and out of school. • As one of the oldest civil rights organizations in the Commonwealth of Virginia, we understand the significance of education and job creation as the foundation for building generational wealth. The Ambassador Program introduces an industry to which students greatly rely upon but have limited access or exposure. Larry Murphy, interim President and CEO of the Urban League of Greater Richmond, states that "this Ambassador Program expands participants' knowledge of the energy industry. In a sense, it's a new frontier for them to learn about energy creation, use and conservation while engaging with various levels of leadership through seminars, workshops and paid internship opportunities. Also, the energy industry offers higher wages than many other industries and this program introduces an alternate career option to participants. The Columbia Gas of Virginia Ambassador Program welcomes exploration of an industry that may lead to job opportunities that result in economic self-reliance that changes lives."

  • Giving Thanks and Making an Impact Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving that takes place on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. As a nonprofit organization, we are excited to participate in this movement and encourage our community to support our cause. Five days before Giving Tuesday, we are inviting everyone to show their support for our LEEP tutoring program, which provides academic support to underprivileged children. Additionally, we are seeking passionate individuals to join our Board of Directors and help us further our mission. We also invite you to donate to our organization to help support the Urban League movement and our programs. Lastly, mark your calendar for our upcoming Voices for the Heart virtual townhall on December 7th, where we will discuss the issues facing our community and how we can work together to make a positive difference. Join us in celebrating Giving Tuesday and making a meaningful impact in the lives of those we serve. DONATE | https://lnkd.in/ezxC87DV
