🍺⭐️ 🥳YOU CAN NOW RATE ANY BEER AT ANY TIME 🥳 ⭐️🍺 We have finally added the new feature to The Beer Explorers rating website! We have wanted this feature for a while as it allows users to rate any beer at any time. This means users are no longer limited to only rating beers at festivals or bound by the beers prepopulated on the website. This is great as we can now recommend beers after beer festivals to attendees that they didn't try at the event and see how much they like our recommendations! As always you can then track all your beer reviews through "Your Ratings". This new feature is beautifully demonstrated in the video below! #beerexplorers #beernerd #beerstagram #beersuk #beerrating

The Beer Explorers is live! 🎉 The Beer Explorers is a web application which currently focuses on enabling attendees of Beer festivals to keep track of how they rate each beer. This then enables us to keep the user in touch with the beer they love as well as being able to recommend them new beers that we know they'll love! All this data then gets transformed into meaningful insights which we share with the festival organisers and breweries to enable them to make data led strategic decisions. Get in touch now if you would like The Beer Explorers to be implemented at your beer festival or check out www.thebeerexplorers.co.uk #beer #beeruk #beernerd #beerfestivals #beerdata #beerrating

🍻 🍺 CRAFT BEER IS BEST - Lagers a bit rubbish? 👍 👎 We've taken the top 10 drinks from The Morning Advertiser reported last week for Craft Beers, Cask Ales, Lagers, Cider and Alcohol Free Beers and pulled the average Beer Explorers Rating along with the volume of ratings to compare categories. One thing to note is The Morning Advertisers list is pulled together based on Volume and Value. From this we've pulled the following points: 1️⃣ Craft Beers are comfortably the best category, have the highest ratings and high volumes of ratings 2️⃣ Ciders are sleepers, they average high ratings but have very low number of ratings 3️⃣ Lagers are the most popular type but don't taste as good as Cask Ales or Craft Beers 4️⃣ Alcohol Free Beers still have a way to go to be as good as their alcoholic counterparts This has led us to three big questions (and plenty of others all which we'll unwrap on here): ❓ If Lagers are not the best why are they so popular? ❓ If Craft Beers are nearly as popular as Lager, are they still Craft Beers? ❓ Are Ciders really that good and is everyone missing out? #beer #beerindustry #beerlover #beergeek #beerratings #beeruk #beerexplorers #cider #craftbeer #caskale #alcoholfree

There's a 🌍 of ⭐ 🍺 it's just not always easy to 👀 ! Using our new 5pt rating system we've looked at one of the top selling beer Stella Artois and compared it to one of the top rated beers in the UK; Smod Brau Hell from The Brewery of Saint Mars of the Desert Using this comparison is that there are some great tasting beers out there and we're on a mission to make it easier for everyone to find great beers like this. Has anyone tried this beer? What do you think? Is it as great as the ratings suggest or is it just that high based on the number of reviews? Time to taste some! #beer #beeruk #SIBA #CAMRA #Beergeek #Beerlover #Beerratings #beerreviews #data #insights #thebeerexplorers

🍺 ⭐ CAN BE DANGEROUS We've looked at beer review ratings in some of our posts and will continue to do so but we want to highlight the dangers of just taking these ratings at face value as there is a lot of things these don't show. They don't show that a beer may be a amazing on draft but not great in a bottle. Some beers vary in taste the further they travel from the brewery. If someone pays very little or a lot for a beer can also impact their perception of what they have purchased. The rating could also be impacted by someone who doesn't even like that style of beer. It's really important to remember what a rating does or doesn't tell you. This doesn't also include any follow up questions such as how likely are they to purchase a beer again, vital information for a brewery that may produce great beer but isn't going to sell many. This lack of depth and information really limits the usefulness for breweries and beer fans and we need to do better. At The Beer Explorers we're working on a new data collection that we can enhance and transform the data so the end user is getting the answer that is most beneficial to them. #beer #beeruk #siba #camra #brewery #breweries #beergeek #beerlovers #beerratings #data #insights #beerreviews #thebeerexplorers

Following on from yesterdays post where we stated we felt a 5pt scale is better than a 25pt scale we wanted to look at the difference. We took 3 of the top selling beers in the UK and took their scores per .25 rating and rounded up to the next whole number so we end up with a 5pt scale. We then took the mean of those scores and compared it to their previous 25pt mean. From the scores below we can see the means are increased, but from our perspective these seem like much better scores for the top selling beers. What do you think? We'll be using our 5pt scales on posts going forward. #Beer #beeruk #beerlovers #beergeek #siba #breweries #makebeergreatagain #uk #beerexplorers #beerrating

More is better right? Not Always! The beer rating app we currently use (more on this at a later date) implements a 25 point rating scale, so variables of 0.25 to give a beer a rating out of 5. This may be good for individual users to be more specific in their ratings, but is a 3.25 / 5 the same for everyone or could someone feel a 3.75 is more appropriate? If it is then surely this is impacting the mean and the mode scores. We propose that a 5 point scale is actually more beneficial as everyone knows what each number means. 1 = Really bad, 2 = Bad, 3 = Okay, 4 = Good, 5 = Really Good. Check back tomorrow and we'll sure an example of how this changes ratings. #beer #beerlovers #beergeek #breweries #beerinsights #ratings #beerexplorers

What is more useful? Mean or Mode? Today we're looking at three lagers and looking at their mean and mode scores from a beer rating app to work out which one should we use? Reminder the beer rating app uses a 25pt scale (more about this tomorrow). From the examples below we can see that Korev from St Austell Brewery and Lost Lager from BrewDog have better scores out of 5 when we look at the mode as opposed to the mean, whereas we have the opposite for Camden Hells from Camden Town Brewery. Most reviews, including the source app, focus on mean but we would challenge whether this is the most useful. Mean scores can be impacted by those who may be rating it but don't even like lager, or they may even have a vendetta against the Brewery. Therefore should we be using mode as surely this shows the most common rating of the beer? For Korev and Lost Lager, most people rate it a 3.5/5 which in this case would look to be the better, more reliable statistic to us. However... what if we could transform the data to suit the needs of those viewing the rating. For Lager fans looking decide which of the three to choose what if we could adjust the mean score to remove the ratings of those that don't like lager, would that change the scores? For Breweries, what if we could focus the results to a specific geographical area, would that give them more beneficial information to help them make strategic decisions? The one thing this definitely shows is that we have to be careful when we look at reviews, we need to make sure that the data can be reliable but also make sure it actually provides the answers you're looking for. This is the goal of where we want to get to when it comes to beer ratings at The Beer Explorers #beer #beerlovers #beerindustry #beerdata #beerinsights #data #meanvmode #breweries #beerexplorers

According to a report by YouGov and a Beer Rating App the top 10 selling beers in the UK only have a rating of 3.12 / 5! That's less than 65%! 👎 Surely if a Beer was to be a top seller we would expect it to be closer to 4 at least? The only one close on the list is GUINESS. Why do people in the UK drink mediocre beer? Is it because these beers are easier to purchase? Do people not know where to look to find great beer? Or are these scores lower than the true opinion of the beers? Enter The Beer Explorers, we're here to help beer fans discover the best beers in the UK! 🍻 🎉 #beer #beerlovers #beergeek #breweries #ukbreweries #siba #beertasting #shoplocal #beverage #beverageindustry #beerratings
