Sarah Minton was in her late 30s when she was told she’d likely need a liver and lung transplant. Having been diagnosed with a rare liver disease years earlier, she had already accepted needing a new liver but the thought of having two organs replaced was unnerving. “That freaked me out,” she says. “I wanted a second opinion.” After doctors at Cleveland Clinic reviewed her medical history, she was treated with medication that helped her lungs and, eventually, made her healthy enough for her planned liver transplant.
