At the end of the year, Daniel Frederick will be transitioning from his role as Executive Director of The Coffee Oasis, into a volunteer/advisory role. Earlier this week, officials from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), including Dep. Secretary Andrea Palm, Principal Dep. Assistant Secretary Jeff Hild, and Administration for Children and Families Commissioner Rebecca Jones Gaston, traveled to Tacoma to learn about what’s contributing to the ➡ 40% reduction in young people experiencing homelessness. ⬅ Governor Jay Inslee and First Lady Trudi Inslee spoke as did leaders from the state’s Office of Homeless Youth and from nonprofit service providers Cocoon House, the YMCA of Greater Seattle Social Impact Center, and The Coffee Oasis, as well as from youth leaders at the The Mockingbird Society.   Sonya Campion and Sheila Babb Anderson represented Campion Advocacy Fund. The message to our federal partners was clear—better coordination from government, youth-driven decision making, a focus on equitable outcomes, and philanthropic partnerships have spurred innovative programs across our state. ❗Roughly 10,000 fewer young people are experiencing homelessness this year in Washington than were eight years ago. ❗ Thank you to our federal leadership for traveling to Washington. Let’s continue to partner on our goal to make Washington state the first in the nation to prevent and end youth homelessness. When you walk into The Coffee Oasis in Tacoma, you're guaranteed to be greeted with beautiful smiles and delicious beverages but I have had the privilege of witnessing the amazing work done behind the scenes. The Coffee Oasis youth programs offer a place for the community to invest in their future—the youth! It is a privilege to be a trusted member of this community and helping the youth served by The Coffee Oasis with their financial health. Did you know September 5 is the #InternationalDayOfCharity?🤝We have a #socialresponsibility to care for one another. Here are 3 ways you can help the youth that come into The Coffee Oasis. 1. Become a helping hand or listening ear. We host #volunteer orientations every month! Attend your next one to learn the many ways you can help. 2. #Donate monthly to our #youthshelter. $60 provides a night of shelter for one youth. 3. Learn what #resources we offer and share with youth ages 13-25 that we can help! The Coffee Oasis is the only youth shelter in #kitsap, but we also have #safespaces to hang out, resources (clothes, showers, food), and #jobtraining classes. ❤ Thank you for helping the youth in your community thrive!

In July 2023, Anthony* reached out to The Coffee Oasis to find shelter from an unsafe living situation. This year his case manager watched him graduate high school with honors, a university acceptance, and up to $58,000 in scholarships. ❤️ When a youth walks through the doors, it is the goal of The Coffee Oasis to walk alongside them through life, provide them with #resources, and offer them #encouragement.
