Last week, Design Minds attended the grand opening of new exhibits at one of America’s newest national parks— New River Gorge National Park & Preserve! TDM planned and designed exhibits in the Canyon Rim Visitor Center. The displays immerse visitors in the rich natural and cultural history of the park. Visitors learn about the forces that shaped the gorge, the park’s biodiversity, and the economic and environmental impacts of railroads and mining in the region. After you visit the exhibits, enjoy a scenic drive, hike the New River Gorge bridge, or embark on an adventurous whitewater rafting excursion!

This week our team is celebrating the opening of a new exhibit, 'Power & Light: Russell Lee's Coal Survey.' Russell Lee's captivating photographs documented the poor living and working conditions mining communities faced but also shared their joy and resiliency. The Design Minds oversaw exhibit planning and design and produced original illustrations to help interpret the story. The exhibit opens on March 16th at the National Archives Museum in Washington, DC.

    • Entrance to the National Archives Museum with large banners announcing the new exhibit.
    • Several individuals examine exhibit panels with illustrations and an artifact case.
    • A man reads an exhibit panel with other panels and large images surrounding him.
    • Several individuals look at large prints of Russell Lee's photographs.
    • An exhibit panel with a diagram noting the history of the 1946 coal strike. An adjacent monitor is playing a short film.

Last week, The Design Minds attended the installation and opening of the brand-new exhibits at National Park Service's Fort Point National Historic Site. Mechanical interactives and tactile components help enhance accessibility while the design and aesthetic works to elevate the artistic masonry without damaging the site's original brickwork. Located underneath the iconic Golden Gate Bridge, these engaging exhibits interpret the fort as an evolving symbol and artistic achievement, while also sharing the stories of those who found meaning here. Thank you to our partners at Monadnock for developing the AV programs. If you're in the San Francisco area, be sure to stop by our newest project! #museums #exhibitdesign #designminds

    • Vivid graphics interpret Fort Point National Historic Site as an evolving symbol.
    • New, engaging mechanical interactives encourage visitors to actively participate in these stories.
    • Exhibits were designed to not harm the historic structure.
    • To initiate the audiovisual programming and listen to more stories, visitors can touch the interactive lantern.
    • AV projections, designed by Monadnock Media, help visitors imagine an active fort.
