I've received a couple of messages from freaked out nonprofits and board members regarding the announcement to freeze Federal Grant disbursements and leave them in limbo. In light of this uncertainty and the need for these orgs to continue meeting their communities needs it's crucial for philanthropy to unite and support them. Here are 10 ways foundations can deploy support. 1. **Emergency Grants:** Extend unrestricted, rapid-response grants to help nonprofits bridge funding shortfalls. 2. **Short-Term Loans:** Provide low- or zero-interest loans to assist organizations in sustaining their operations through the pause.     3. **Loan Guarantees:** Collaborate with banks to support nonprofit loans, easing financial access. 4. **Capacity Support:** Fund technology upgrades, staffing aid, or grant-writing help to equip nonprofits for future opportunities. 5. **Flexibility on Existing Grants:** Ease restrictions on current grants or permit fund reallocation for operational needs. 6. **Collaborative Funding:** Join forces with other funders to combine resources for shared priorities, amplifying impact. 7. **Advocacy and Policy Support:** Advocate for federal & state actions and policy reforms to minimize future disruptions, amplifying nonprofit voices. 8. **Training and Resources:** Offer training in financial resilience, fundraising diversification, and other skills to enhance nonprofit sustainability. 9. **Bridge Funds for Staff Retention:** Provide targeted grants to aid nonprofits in retaining essential staff during uncertain times. 10. **Community Funds:** Establish or contribute to local nonprofit stabilization funds that serve as a safety net for affected organizations and bring individual donors into the mix.
