Jake closes out the week short and sweet: You don't need to broadcast and dwell on not knowing how to do the job. Jump in and start working within the job, learn from those that know, to become the one who knows how to do the thing you set out to do. And no on will know that you didn't know. "Fake it 'till you make it" has its limitations... Don't get yourself way over your head by putting yourself in a situation where you have ZERO clue on how to do the job. Don't expect to be a master, but don't be totally oblivious. Go in with a base set of skills in the area, and learn as you go! "Fake It Until You Make It" A term that is often misunderstood. So what does it really mean? To an Impactful Engineer, it's the act of finding where you want to go, and emulating the actions and behaviors of those who are already there. To achieve your goal, it takes the belief that you can obtain it coupled with the required time it takes you to get there. In short, you must operate as the next level, before you are able to reach it. Visually, it can be expressed as the equation: Belief x (Actions + Behaviors) x Time = Achievement Tune in to Episode 51 to dive deeper into the explanation between Steven & Jake: https://lnkd.in/ggwcdXUk #ImpactfulEngineer #IntentionalEngineer #MakeYourImpact #EngineeringExcellence #RisingTide #PersonalDevelopment #EngineeringMentorship #MechanicalEngineering #ElectricalEngineering #CivilEngineering

You found it, your dream engineering job! Wait... there's a half dozen bullet points in the job description that you don't meet and they use a different design software than you're used to. Job descriptions are designed to cast a wide net to catch as many candidates that fit the role as possible (exceptions are extremely experienced niche experts of course). Most engineer's hired DO NOT meet every bullet in the position listing. Don't lose out on amazing opportunities! Always ask for an opportunity to tour the facility during in-person interviews! While walking around, pay close attention to the personnel and how they operate. Are they excited, hustling, smiling, engaging, and take a moment to greet you? Are they slumped over their desk, complaining to each other, scowling, and intentionally ignoring or flat out avoiding you as you walk by? Either scenario is very telling of the culture within that company. So ask yourself, is this where you want to spend the majority of your time for the foreseeable future? Want to know more on how you can find the best company to kickstart your career? How about finding your next job because you want more out of your career?
