IoT and AI are the future of medical equipment and here’s why: With the innovation of IoT (Internet of Things), medical devices are as connected as ever, becoming a critical cog in the machine, allowing for real-time data monitoring.   However – it’s the incorporation of AI with these IoT sensors that really takes the cake. By putting the two together, AI analyzes the data to accurately diagnose issues and recommend the best solution that the human brain might not have thought of. Not to mention, they can also predict which parts may fail soon, so you can have the part in stock when that happens! Crazy, right? Together, these innovations can reduce equipment downtime, decrease unnecessary costs, and optimize repair time.

Patient Safety is our top priority and WHO (World Health Organization) feels the same way. In September, they held a seminar on World Patient Safety Day, all about improving diagnosis for patient safety. Specifically, they were chatting about safety with medical imaging and its radiation exposure, as that can cause harmful effects. This is a good time to reflect on what measures your healthcare system has in place to ensure patient safety, specifically against radiation. How strictly are those measures enforced? What procedures are there if something were to occur?

Providing effective and high-quality healthcare is the end goal, right? How is your medical equipment’s reliability? High, low, so-so? If the answer is not high, then the quality of healthcare can be improved. What’s the correlation? It’s simple – continuously maintaining medical equipment increases its availability and optimizes resources, which, in turn, decreases patient disruption. The less patient disruption, the higher the quality of care, as perceived by the patient. So, again, how is your medical equipment’s reliability?

You’ve heard the term essential worker. We all have. But, what roles do you think of when you hear that term? Maybe firefighter, doctor, nurse, and so on. And you would be correct. However, there is an unseen essential worker who is also on healthcare’s frontlines. That is a BMET. Biomedical Equipment Technician. They are the minds behind the medical equipment, ensuring all devices are running and safe for patients. Working in this career has many benefits that, if you didn’t know it existed, you wouldn’t know what you could gain. A BMET would explain their benefits as high job opportunities/demand, good pay, multiple options for education and advancement, helping patients, and only needing a certificate to get started. Sounds pretty good, right? We think so! And… we’re hiring. Check out our open listings to launch your career in healthcare.

The term “blockchain” has been a popular one in recent years in conversations, though limited to topics related to cryptocurrency. Which, is understandable considering it was developed for that industry. So why are we mentioning it? Because blockchain can optimize the medical equipment industry. Here’s how: It is not crypto-specific, all blockchain technology is, is a digital ledger that houses transactions that occur across a specified network of computers. So, it can provide a real-time, accurate tracking system for all devices, that can prevent theft, keep maintenance timely, and optimize utilization. It also fortifies any cybersecurity by creating a tamper-proof record of data which keeps patient data private. Start thinking outside the box and see how that can advance the industry!

Hurricane Helene left over 1 million people without power and compromised 93 water systems, forcing hospitals into crisis mode. During these challenging times, we recognize our heroes—first responders, nurses, doctors, and essential hospital staff. They set aside their own worries and concerns to care for our communities and ensure essential services continue. Photo by AP News
