The LTO Program was formed in 1997, and three companies -- Hewlett Packard Enterprise, IBM and Quantum -- jointly oversee the development and roadmap of Linear Tape-Open (LTO) technology. That’s right, the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) has a super computing data center with over 60,000 data tapes and 10 tape libraries and an Exabyte of data on tape storage.
