Guaranteeing all Americans quality places to hunt and fish.
About us
In 1912 Theodore Roosevelt said, “There can be no greater issue than that of conservation in this country.” While in the political arena, he succeeded in making conservation a top tier national issue. T.R. had the foresight to address these issues still so significant to sportsmen today, understanding that if we want to ensure critical habitat, special hunting grounds and secret fishing holes will be around for future generations, we must plan carefully today. We guarantee all Americans quality places to hunt and fish by uniting and amplifying our partners’ voices to strengthen federal policy and funding.

Those who know South Florida fishing know of Steve Huff, who has been called the “best fishing guide alive.” Huff is a humble man, though, and quickly dismisses that reference. He doesn’t frequent fishing expos, or post on social media, or star in television shows. But for decades, he’s been out on the water. He simply heads out at dawn each day, poles his boat with practiced grit, and makes damn sure his clients catch memorable fish – even now in his so-called retirement. He’s fished professionally from the Lower Keys up through Florida Bay and the southern reaches of the Everglades, including Ten Thousand Islands. TRCP asked Huff about his thoughts on South Florida fishing, Everglades restoration, and the importance of clean water. See what he had to say in his own words on the issues. Read 'Capt. Steve Huff Talks Fishing, Conservation, & Clean Water' by visiting: https://bit.ly/4djsVrJ Shallow Water Expeditions, Bonefish & Tarpon Trust, Captains For Clean Water, International Game Fish Association

Seven hunting and fishing conservation groups launched the website Hunt-Fish-Vote Wyoming, an educational, voter resource for Wyoming’s hunters and anglers. Supporting groups include Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership, Wyoming Wildlife Federation, WYOMING WILD SHEEP FOUNDATION, American Bear Foundation, Backcountry Hunters & Anglers, Muley Fanatic Foundation, and Wyoming Trout Unlimited. “State and local officials make decisions every day that affect public access and habitat,” said Josh Metten, Wyoming field representative for the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership, who lives in Cody. “TRCP is proud to contribute to Hunt-Fish-Vote Wyoming, which will help Wyoming hunters and anglers educate themselves about elected officials and commit to vote in the 2024 primary and general elections.” The website features downloadable resources, including an informational guide on state and local positions, a candidate questionnaire, and information about Wyoming hunting and fishing community priorities. ICAST Summit Focuses on Shark Depredation, Offshore Wind During the annual sportfishing trade show, TRCP moderated two panels to inform attendees about high-profile saltwater fisheries conservation issues. TRCP hosts a conservation summit every year at ICAST, the world’s largest sportfishing trade show, which is offered by the American Sportfishing Association. At last week’s 2024 summit in Orlando, Fla., we were once again fortunate to offer panels of industry experts and benefit from high attendance. This year, the two panels covered issues of top concern to saltwater anglers: an increase in shark depredation and the expansion of offshore wind farms. Below are highlights of each panel. https://bit.ly/46f5ei0 📸: ASA, Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission, NOAA Fisheries

New Forage Fish Resource Goes Live https://lnkd.in/gsGFcRQV If you want great sportfishing, you need healthy forage fish. Like other small but critically important forage fish, menhaden and herring play a central role in marine food webs. These tiny, oily baitfish are an essential food source for larger fish species, including economically important sportfish like striped bass, redfish, bluefin tuna, bluefish, speckled trout, and tarpon. Whales, dolphins, ospreys, and other species also consume these forage fish in large quantities. See video clips, imagery, maps, resource links, and more at our new forage fish webpage. 👉 https://lnkd.in/gsGFcRQV 📸: Jon Haas, Joanna Steidle

This past spring, employees of NV Energy recently joined Nevada Department of Wildlife staff, Nevada Bighorns Unlimited, the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership, and other conservation-minded volunteers to construct a new water guzzler in Churchill County for desert bighorn sheep. Water is the limiting factor for wildlife in much of Nevada, and guzzlers have become a critical habitat improvement in arid climates. Guzzlers are human-made rain or snow collection systems that store water in a reservoir for wildlife to drink during drought. Many have been funded and built in the same way as this Churchill County project – through volunteers and donations. “Guzzlers are the most personally satisfying conservation projects to complete,” said Carl Erquiaga, TRCP Nevada field representative and 37-year Fallon NBU director. “It’s amazing to think when you show up that day, there are stacks of various building materials on the ground. When you leave that afternoon, a guzzler is ready for rain and bighorn sheep or other wildlife.” Watch a video of the construction of this year’s water guzzler by visiting https://bit.ly/3WajwMn

Good news for Colorado wildlife! The Colorado Bureau of Land Management just released a new management plan for big game habitat conservation that aligns oil and gas management with the conservation policies of the State of Colorado. Sporting groups applaud the plan and urge the agency to consider big game conservation in all future management decisions. https://bit.ly/4d8xNzU National Wildlife Federation
