About us
Therapists Beyond Borders is a 501(c)(3) international nonprofit organization. Our team is composed of compassionate physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech-language pathologists. We are all about supporting disability communities and local therapists in regions of the world where access and awareness of multidisciplinary rehabilitation is limited. We are not just about making a difference today; we are about building a foundation for positive change that endures over time. Our Training-of-Trainers (ToT) strategy acts as a catalyst, generating a ripple effect that promotes equity, accessibility, sustainability, and social justice.

October 27th is World Occupational Therapy Day! Today, we celebrate the work of Occupational Therapists (OTs) around the world and promote the activities of OTs locally, nationally, and internationally. At TBB, we're lucky to work with some amazing OTs. Special shout-out to all of the fabulous OTs on our team! What exactly do OTs do? They empower people to thrive in their daily lives by helping with essential activities like bathing, eating, dressing, and social participation, among so much more! Don't forget to thank an OT for the life-changing work they do every day! #PropellingPotential #SpeechTherapy #Physiotherapy #OccupationalTherapy #PhysicalTherapy #PT #SLP #OT #Rehab #Rehabilitation #Therapy #RehabilitationTherapy

It's National Health Education Week (NHEW)! NHEW is meant to increase awareness of major public health issues and promote a better understanding of the role of health education and health promotion. Each day of NHEW has a different theme and the theme of today is Health Literacy Game-Changers for Health Equity Champions. This theme aligns with TBB's mission as our trainings bring invaluable information about healthcare to communities in need. By improving health literacy in these communities, we’re breaking down barriers, making healthcare more accessible, and ensuring everyone has the opportunity to live their healthiest life. In September, Mary led a mental health training in Muranga where 30 community members came together to share their experiences and learn how to better manage the challenges they face. One mother shared the emotional burden she carried due the hurtful comments people in her village made in regard to her child's cleft palate. Her fear of judgment led her to avoid seeking help for her child. Another mother, who had lost her child with disabilities the previous week, emerged as one of the most encouraging and uplifting participants in the workshop, offering strength and support to others despite her recent loss. These powerful stories highlight the resilience of caregivers and the importance of creating supportive spaces for them to share and heal. *Posted with permission #PropellingPotential #SpeechTherapy #Physiotherapy #OccupationalTherapy #PhysicalTherapy #PT #SLP #OT #Rehab #Rehabilitation #Therapy #RehabilitationTherapy

We recently added four brand new ambassadors to our team! Over the next couple of weeks, we'll be introducing them. First up is Lauren Offringa! Lauren earned her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from Columbia University in 2015. Over the past 10 years, she has focused primarily on pediatrics and mental health. Her desire to become an OT emerged after living in China, where she sought a career that would allow her to work with children in other countries. While researching sustainable programs that empower local communities, Lauren discovered Therapists Beyond Borders. She is excited to join the TBB Ambassador team and help raise funds for this important cause. When Lauren is not working or raising money for TBB, she enjoys long-distance cycling, trail running, pottery, and learning French. Welcome to the team, Lauren! *Posted with permission #PropellingPotential #SpeechTherapy #Physiotherapy #OccupationalTherapy #PhysicalTherapy #PT #SLP #OT #Rehab #Rehabilitation #Therapy #RehabilitationTherapy
