Save lives. Provide hope. Help those impacted by blood cancer.
About us
Our mission is: Save lives. Provide hope. Help those impacted by blood cancer. There Goes My Hero was founded by leukemia survivor and bone marrow transplant recipient Erik Sauer. On May 20, 2008, Erik was diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML). One week later, Erik’s wife Lisa gave birth to their son Joey. Several days later, Erik entered Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he spent four rocky months, receiving chemotherapy and, ultimately, a bone marrow transplant from an unrelated donor. Erik's own fight led him to want to help others. Today, Hero partners with DKMS to add potential lifesavers to the National Bone Marrow Registry; provides meals to patients undergoing treatment and their family members with Moveable Feast, and supports blood cancer research and patient support programs at Maryland hospitals.

Thank you so much for all your hard work Mahika! We appreciate you and the Do Good Institute at the University of Maryland for all they've done.
For the past 3 months I have had the opportunity of interning at There Goes My Hero thanks to the University of Maryland Do Good Institute. At TGMH, I spent my time volunteering at the Hackerman-Patz Patient and Family Pavillion, attending and organizing bone marrow donor registry drives, assisting volunteers in assembling care packages for patients and caregivers, and creating content for our social media accounts. I look forward to using the skills I learned at TGMH throughout my next 3 years at UMD and in the future. Thank you to the Hero team especially Mary Kaye DiUbaldo, Olivia Lewis, and Andrea Hernandez for all that I have learned over the course of these past few months.
